All that is fine except that warning that they sent out saying there would be consequences if teams purposefully exploited this. I'm pretty much assuming this was sent out to the OTHER 31 teams...their golden turds can do no wrong.

It wouldn't really change much - teams like vgk would just have a 120M roster and all the depth they could imagine in the playoffs...it's still a large advantage over other teams who are trying to play it straight by the cap for the regular season.

I hope vgk-dallas completely annihilate each other.
Personally I think that was to save face publicly. The NHL doesn't care about LTIR.

Honestly, next season teams that are rebuilding should start convincing contending teams to put their vets on LTIR near the TDL and acquire their better players. It'll speed up rebuilds, create insane playoff rosters and level the playing field.

On another note, not that I have even a remote expectation of it happening BUT if St. Louis wins tonight and Vegas loses... it's a 1 point gap though Vegas will have a game in hand and finishes off against Chicago and Anaheim.

Those actual idiots in St. Louis. Lost 5 of 6 points to SAN JOSE this season. They'd be ahead of Vegas now if they took care of business against the worst team in a long, long time.

It was about trading for an injured player, placing him on LTIR, then activating him for playoffs. If Vegas had not activated Hertl before the playoffs, that would fit that mould.

Stone is their own player, they didn't trade for him. Thus that memo has nothing to do with this situation.

Let's be real here: none of the actual insiders are "hockey people" in the sense that they have experienced the game as a participant at a high level. They are journalists, specialized on hockey. In that sense, I don't really see Frank in any different light than Dreger, Friedman, LeBrun, CJ or even Bobby Margarita.

What I can say about Seravalli is, that he brings more controversial takes to the table than the other insiders. And I don't think that's because of his specific personality, it's because he has his own company/site that he represents instead of Sportsnet/TSN (or Rogers/Bell).
Seravalli's hockey takes are often terrible but that's not why people listen to him TBH. He's there to bring news, discuss what's happening around the league and honestly he's fun to listen to.

DFO is objectively the best hockey news podcast.

They've had roughly 15 years to close this loophole, multiple times it's come up, and the vast majority of the teams decline to do so.

I'm honestly surprised the Avs are not one of the teams that has pounded the table to try and end this because their ownership group wants very little to do with excess costs. But alas, they're one of the organizations okay with what Vegas and Tampa (and Chicago) have done over the years.
Yeah but Avs are a hush hush type of organization. We have seen it before. Avs players get hit the head and the opposing teams are just getting away with it. They don't seem to want to file for an appeal on the decision or file for a fair hearing of some sorts. Same thing here. Avs don't seem like an organization that is going try to make a revolution or at least change things up.

I wish Landy could come back to playoffs just like Stone. That would a big plus for this team.

Random trivia time!

In the salary cap era, who had the highest single-season point total for a player that Colorado traded for mid-season? And who had the highest point total for a player they traded away?

I'm counting full season totals, not just their time with the Avs.
It’s gotta be Mittelstadt

As far as traded away, I have no clue

Hmmm...this could be tough.

As for traded for I'd say Sandis Ozolinsh.

Traded away, Adam Deadmarsh.

Oh, sorry, we're only counting cap era.

Hmmmmm...yeesh. Can't even guess now. I'll have to do some thinking on this.
I’ve done some research, gone through all the trades since the cap, and Mittelstadt is the one, unless I’m missing a trade there. Didn’t really do much search on traded away. It’s a toughy
