You could simply allow the players to be activated but you don't allow the team to ice a group that costs more than the cap. Make them pick and choose who they play as they get healthy.
They've had roughly 15 years to close this loophole, multiple times it's come up, and the vast majority of the teams decline to do so.

I'm honestly surprised the Avs are not one of the teams that has pounded the table to try and end this because their ownership group wants very little to do with excess costs. But alas, they're one of the organizations okay with what Vegas and Tampa (and Chicago) have done over the years.

IIRC years ago Tampa was basically the only team that wanted to bring in the cap for the playoffs to close this loop. Everyone else said no. Few seasons later, they pulled the Kucherov.

Did Vegas have to release the Mark Stone news so people would stop talking about the Coyotes? Haha but every piece of news out of Arizona just seems embarrassing

The first sign of spring isn't the ground hog coming out of its hole its Mark Stone coming off of LTIR.

The man has wolverine like healing to be able to come in and be the top two way winger in the game just 8 weeks after a lacerated spleen. Not to mention the back injury that would have left lesser men in a wheelchair.

Habs fans have pointed out that Cole Caufield managed 25-27-62 in 79 games with a shooting percentage of 8.3, which is ridiculously low. There's a superstar in there, just remains to be seen if Montreal can utilize him properly.
25 + 27 = 52 not 62
Fans were expecting 40 or 50 goals this season, he definitely had a down year.

He's playing with their 1C, their 1W and he's on PP1...not sure what else they can do.

At the same time they wrote this release they also prepared the release for next season injury in Feb. That release is now locked up in a safe under guards. No other teams are prepared like VGK.

Sorry, 37 assists. The 62 points is accurate.

They could probably get more out of Caufield with a better power play--theirs was 28th in the league this year. According to Daily Faceoff, their top unit at present is Newhook-Suzuki-Slafkovsky-Caufield-Matheson. Matheson is good offensively but they need a better QB than that IMO.

There are other things I think they could do better, I think a LOT depends on whether or not Dach can be a guy they can build around or if he's simply unable to stay in the lineup. Suzuki's a hell of a player but he should probably be their 2nd line center. At the very least they need someone in there who's better than Newhook.

f*** it. Give us Vegas first round. I want Colorado to be the ones to beat their ass out of the playoffs.
I actually don't care if the Avs finish 2nd or 3rd, honestly. I believe that they skated themselves into dust over the last couple of weeks of last year's regular season, trying to win the division.

I get they haven't been great on the road this season, but I'd prefer they focus on health/fatigue, rather than opponents/home ice.

Wish that tweet was from Seravalli or Friedman so the upcoming Hart voters would see it.
Oh, he knows about it. Brought it up on his show the other day, basically called people poo-pooing it stupid, and said something along the lines of, "So, what? They're still legit points. Just means he's so important to them that they put him out there in those situations.." Then he argued that secondary assists were less important than ENG points.

I sort of get it, they didn't want any leaks and whatnot. At the same time, it's a shitty way to treat your personel. And I'm not talking about the hockey ops here. The players, staff and whatnot, they are well off and will move with the team. No tears shred. The rest of the organization is a different story.

I actually laughed when some people point out "what about the players?" in this saga. Like c'mon, there are two players with any sort of trade protection in their squad: Kerfoot and Schmaltz (both 10 team NTC). The rest should just deal with this like any other trade, it's part of the business. Be happy, you're going to Salt Lake City, not Edmonton, Detroit or Winnipeg.

Seravelli is one of the dumbest hockey people to ever actually work in the sport.

Holy his lack of understanding of the game never fails to amaze me.

Let's be real here: none of the actual insiders are "hockey people" in the sense that they have experienced the game as a participant at a high level. They are journalists, specialized on hockey. In that sense, I don't really see Frank in any different light than Dreger, Friedman, LeBrun, CJ or even Bobby Margarita.

What I can say about Seravalli is, that he brings more controversial takes to the table than the other insiders. And I don't think that's because of his specific personality, it's because he has his own company/site that he represents instead of Sportsnet/TSN (or Rogers/Bell).

People getting worked up over this. Kelly McCrimmon came out and publicly trolled the league weeks ago when he was questioned on if Vegas was lying about their injuries.

Fact of the matter is this: The NHL's LTIR loophole exists for all 32 teams, and they can all use it. It's very, very obvious that the league does not care if you're legitimately hurt because NHL teams can have their players just say "ouch" and voila, player must not be good to go. The NHL isn't verifying anything here.

Teams and specifically owners just have to accept that you gotta pay more during the season to compete with Vegas.
All that is fine except that warning that they sent out saying there would be consequences if teams purposefully exploited this. I'm pretty much assuming this was sent out to the OTHER 31 teams...their golden turds can do no wrong.

It wouldn't really change much - teams like vgk would just have a 120M roster and all the depth they could imagine in the playoffs...it's still a large advantage over other teams who are trying to play it straight by the cap for the regular season.

I hope vgk-dallas completely annihilate each other.
