This city needs a team people!!

Bring the team back after a few years? And SLC would get the expansion team?

That'd suck for everyone involved except Meruelo.

The city hates them, the fans hate them, the owners hate them, the players hate them. Why again does Arizona need a hockey team?

I see your Mark Stone and I raise a Gabe Landeskog.

The difference is, one does this EVERY year right before the trade deadline and comes back game 1 of the playoffs, so his team can circumvent the cap and add $9M worth of players. That other hasn't played in nearly 2 full seasons, and may still not play this year unless his team makes it out of round one and probably even round 2,

I know, I know, everyone plays by the same rules, blah, blah, blah , blah , blah... Who "lacerates" their spleen and has the recovery timed just perfectly so they can go on LTIR before the TDL, and return game 1 of the playoffs without planning it?

Taxes, death and Stone being cleared to practice just before the playoffs starts.............

This is getting ridiculous at this point.

Not to mention that a lacerated spleen has a normal 3-4 month recovery time, and dude is back on the ice just 7 weeks after the injury, and 9-10 days before the playoffs start

At this point I can't help but be impressed. Vegas' has nailed the formula of how to f*** with the rest of the league and succeed.

People getting worked up over this. Kelly McCrimmon came out and publicly trolled the league weeks ago when he was questioned on if Vegas was lying about their injuries.

Fact of the matter is this: The NHL's LTIR loophole exists for all 32 teams, and they can all use it. It's very, very obvious that the league does not care if you're legitimately hurt because NHL teams can have their players just say "ouch" and voila, player must not be good to go. The NHL isn't verifying anything here.

Teams and specifically owners just have to accept that you gotta pay more during the season to compete with Vegas.

It's hard to police injuries when so much of medical clearance is based off the player's progress... which is often based off what the player says. The last thing the NHLPA wants is a player being forced back prematurely from an injury.

So even if an external committee/doctor was added - Stone can easily just say that there's pain doing x/y/z movement. Really the only way to close the loophole is to prevent LTIR players from being activated in the playoffs, but than it impacts players that are legitimately injured.

You could simply allow the players to be activated but you don't allow the team to ice a group that costs more than the cap. Make them pick and choose who they play as they get healthy.
