I wonder if any current Coyotes players will request a trade instead of wanting to head to SLC?

Perhaps that fear might be why reports say Coyotes players will be taken to Utah very soon to be shown the facility and city.
They very well might.

There’s a bit of a crap show of a situation with this. NTC lists don’t get updated again until July but obviously trades will start happening again after the SCF. There are rumblings about players being pissed because they didn’t put Arizona on their list but would have put SLC

I want royalties when they steal my dispersal draft idea I’ve been floating since January

I'm excited about the move. Much closer to SLC so I'll be able to go to more games. But at the same time I'm sad I never took the chance to go to Mullet and see a game there. Might have been a fun atmosphere

My son is the same age I was when the Avs came to Colorado. I wonder if he'll switch allegences so he doesn't have to cheer for the same team as me lol
If you are a shitty father he will.

I think it's kind of ludicrous that the NHL would want to keep Meruelo in the fold for a potential (likely) future expansion. He's been a rank embarrassment to the league as an owner. The whole reason they lost the Gila River deal was because he couldn't afford to pay the rent for the building on time. And apparently he had to be shamed into paying his hotel bills recently, too. He's either too broke to own a team or too incompetent. Neither is good for business. I just can't believe he could get another shot after he's run a team into the ground there despite Bettman degrading himself for two decades to keep then afloat.

I understand that the league needed to get the deal done fast and Meruelo had leverage, but surely there's a way the NHL can force the sale of a team without making a bunch of legally binding promises to a proven flake.

I'm no fan of Arizona as a place I'd want to be for more than a week, but Utah?
Salt Lake City is one of the most depressing cities I've ever had the misfortune of visiting. It made Oklahoma City look vibrant and progressive. I put it on par with Des Moines.
And I was raised in Colorado Springs. I know of what I speak.

That who he wants part is related to the front office.

As a franchise, the team will do phenomenally in Utah. I’ve pounded this drum for years, but Smith is the perfect new age owner and SLC is not what it was 20 years ago religion and politics wise (though I’m personally still not the biggest fan). The local pride that’ll come from having the team will be huge and they will be very well supported. Hell, the Jazz are approaching 300 consecutive sellouts for a very mediocre basketball team. Along with that, Smith is a guy that just flat out cares. He’ll make a few mistakes by being too involved, but he’ll learn from them quickly and adjust.

This will end up a great move for the NHL. Will take a few years to get there.

It really isn’t as bad as you say. I spent ~2 winters living in the area recently and liked it more than I would have thought.

I’m pumped for this move for selfish reasons. I cannot wait to stay with friends, ski all day, and watch the Avs at night without having to drive 2+ hrs on I70.

I’d say owners care less than Daly/Bettman. The only part of the NHL that cares is front offices and the amount they care is more about their specific team and competing. Owners and Daly/Bettman just care than the revenues are up and players don’t get more than 50% (soon to be pushing for 47%).
I heard the players are going to ask for 53%. :sarcasm:

I recently spent four days in Columbus. Just sayin.
