Hartman is an idiot but 3 games for THAT? And they said he was verbally abusing the officials which played a role in the suspension?

These doofuses will suspend you 3 games for hurting the refs feelings but try to kill someone with a shot to the head and you might not even have a talking to. Love it.

There's literally zero excuse to verbally abuse refs. 3 games isn't enough.

Hurling mean words at the ref should not warrant a suspension unless they cross certain, obvious lines. Hucking a stick in their general direction is completely uncalled for. I don’t care if he wasn’t really aiming for them, can’t do that.

I'm of the opinion players should start showing their dissatisfaction with the officiating by taking slappers at their heads during game play.

I have zero sympathy for NHL officials. None. Nada. Zilch. f*** 'em all.

Refs are mostly great, but they miss calls all the time. Ref missed a clear high stick on the play, Hartman was upset at that.

I would love to know what he said because it has to be brutal for them to include that in their justification for suspension.

Yeah I don't agree with that at all. I don't think the players should do it, but the refs in the NHL are f***ing terrible. I don't know how half the guys in the NHL are able to hold their tongues.

This is how I view it too. It's understandable that the league has to protect the refs, but part of the reason they get worse every year, instead of better, is because they're protected more than an endangered species.

And the reason isn't because being a ref is such a hard job. It's their decision making on what to call and what not to call.

They have eagle eyes to spot 100% of every stick blade that touches an arm for a split second, but somehow miss 50% of high sticks, and trips. That's just incompetence.

Whichever of NYR and Canes don’t win the division is getting a bye in the first round playing either collapsed Philly or ancient Caps
As shocking as it is Pittsburgh still has an outside chance of making it. 6 points back with 2 games in hand but several teams to pass.

St. Louis not out of it yet, either. If they beat Edmonton they will be 3 points back of LA who lost in regulation to Winnipeg.

Didn’t notice the Pens but I guess NYI isn’t totally out either. With the way Philly is playing almost expecting to see Dead Things grab WC2 and the last spot come down to whichever of the metro teams sucks the least to grab 3rd in that division

We talk a lot about how Ovechkin likely breaks Gretzky's record this season if he didn't miss time due to lockouts but I have taken Sidney Crosby's totals for granted.

If he didn't miss time due to lockouts and the stupid David Steckel hit he's probably looking at around 150 more games and ~200 more points which right now would have him 6th all time. Instead he is 11th and probably doesn't have a chance at cracking the top five.

That would have been a joy to see Sid top five all time. I feel like I take for granted just how good offensively this guy was/is because of players like McDavid today.

Crosby's consistency through his entire career, including the later stages, has been almost as impressive as his performance during his peak years.

He's been a ppg+ player every season of his career so far, from 18-36 years old. Twelve 30 goal season and going for 40 this year. He's 36 years old and still tied for 15th in points and 15th in goals.

He's just a machine. Bodes well for how Nate will age IMO, since they basically do all the same off season training, and Nate probably has a better diet.

Yeah I think it Ovi wasn’t going for most goals ever it’d probably get more talk. Even reading this post I didn’t realize he was already that high up on the points list. Really is crazy how good Ovi and Crosby ended up.

For a long time, he did just that. Crosby didn't become a two-way stalwart until ~2014 playing alongside Canada under Mike Babcock.
Yeah I feel like this never gets talked about with Crosby. Dude was pretty awful defensively for a good chunk of the start of his career, which isn’t uncommon for high end players like him. Some improve later on, but few become very good defensively like he has.
