Ottawa is so bad. Up against the cap and losing to San Jose? Chychrun and at least 1 core forward being shipped out this summer.

They locked the core in really fast, and I'm not so sure it's a great core. Sanderson's giant deal kicks in next year and um, yikes.

Buffalo is trying something similar and initial results there are not promising.

The core is good. You've been watching hockey long enough to know that the success of a hockey team isn't always the sum of its parts. On one side you have Ottawa and on the other side you have Boston.

Would be nice if Detroit can come back down 1 and beat Vegas. I just want to laugh hard seeing Vegas miss the playoffs. It would be epic comedy

It's "good." It's not great. By locking Stutzle, Norris, Tkachuk, Batherson, Chabot, Zub, and now Sanderson, they're not getting any excess contract value out of those players. In fact, guys like Chabot aren't even living up to those massive deals.

Also doesn't help that Korpisalo is probably the worst goalie contract out there.

Goalie, coaching, culture

This is what it boils down to. 32nd ranked goaltending in hockey, even worse than NJ who we all say would be a playoff team and likely contender if they just found someone to stop a puck.

I said it when they signed him and I say it again: I have no idea why they thought Korpisalo could be a starting goalie. He had never been one. He'd been an average backup his entire career and happened to get hot one Covid series vs Toronto.

Ottawa and New Jersey should be going all in this Summer for goalies like Markstrom, Saros, and/or Gibson. Figure it out.

I still think it might not be a good team even if those things all get better. I know I could be wrong but I just don’t think that’s a great core of talent to build around.

It’s funny that they’re likely going to jettison arguably the best value contract on their blueline in Chychrun when they should be trying like hell to dump Chabot.

I found the whole thing very entertaining but I feel like the league has to levy more than just a massive fine. Can’t have a coach or player or anyone refuse to leave after getting kicked out. Regardless of whether the beef with the refs was justified (and I’m told it kinda was).

Refs should be made to justify their actions postgame in times like this. Torts is a fiery guy but even this was a lot for him
