That is too bad about Bedard, but IMO that was a clean body check. Bedard was reaching, and the contact went through his head but I don't think it was the main point of contact. You've got to be aware that guys are going to step up on you in the NHL, it's a lot less likely that a defender is going to wave their stick at you as you dance past them in the big leagues. Lesson learned for him, hopefully.

Also, with regard to Tomas Tatar in Seattle: I think this should be a cautionary tale for the "We could have had Tolvanen for free!" crowd. Good players don't always work on every team in the league. Tatar was a bad fit for the Avs style, there's no guarantee that Tolvanen would have performed as well here as he has with the Kraken.

That certainly appeared to be a clean hit on Bedard. In today's NHL you still have to answer for it and Smith did but there was nothing wrong with it. Nice clean hockey hit.

Sucks that Bedard is out as he's really fun to watch. Saw people insinuating he was soft for leaving the game and it turns out the kid has a fractured jaw.

It wasn't BS. He was too skinny and weak, he was thrown around like a rag doll all over the ice. Obviously he got stronger with age.
28-38-66 in 71 games as a rookie... He was outstanding from the very start in the NHL, if he was so weak and helpless he wouldn't have been nearly PPG. The point is that he was always an effective NHL player from the very beginning despite the BS narrative that he was too skinny to be successful. Obviously, it was never a hindrance for him.

Does anyone know how many games he played next to RyJo when he was playing here? I'm curious.

I never said anything about his ability to produce points. We were talking about his durability and his built.

I knew you’d be the first one to respond to this.

And no, it was bullshit. People (like you) looked at one incident where Mike Matheson lost his mind and threw him around like a ragdoll (something George Parros called “not a hockey play” and suspended him for it) and everyone said he was too small instead of that being an insanely dirty play by an insanely dumb player. Funny, you haven’t said anything about him since. I don’t think he simply bulked up after that, he might have gotten a little stronger but he also got smarter but most of all, those claims were exaggerated to begin with.

Yea once he moved from scrawny teenager to (thin) grown man he was fine.
Or you were just wrong.

Interestingly, Tolvanen has turned in Seattle from a soft, one dimensional scorer, into a grinding hitting machine. He has totally re-invented his game there. He leads the Finns among hits in the league.

Torts does wonders for teams until they get sick of him.
He’s honestly an amazing coach. Just so many in the media hate him. Kinda funny now how much hate he was getting at the beginning of last season about systems and advanced stats from the media.

Does Torts really still wear on his own players faster than any other average NHL coach? I feel like he's toned down quite a lot over the years.
Not really. He is certainly hard on guys and hat has a shelf life… but many still go to bat for him and he’s got an awesome rep as a person to them.

Henchy literally told you how many games he missed his first two seasons. Give it up already.

Your build really has nothing to do with your durability. Erik Johnson is 6'4" and built like an ox, and we all know that didn't help him one tiny bit on the injury front.

This.
