My whole point was that a four team tournament is dumb. I’m also mad they can’t get the Olympics right.

I wasn’t expecting this discussion. 😂

Then they're hypocritical given the current world climate and the United States' involvement.

Like I said, either ban all countries from play and do nothing, or don't make it political. It's hockey.
Yes they're hypocritical. Of course they are.

Banning a Russian team costs them very little money. Banning the US would be extremely bad for business.

Their top line would be Drai-Jesus-Barzal…that’d be fun to watch

They literally had that at their fingertips, and decided no, that wouldn't be fun at all. Pretty much confirmed what every non-Oilers fan knew: they wouldn't win squat with McDavid. And Oilers fans actually got miffed over us getting mad about how they'd blow it lol

That's what happens when you give away points or don't show up for games lol such a frustrating year

It has been frustrating, but we won the cup last year, so I'm happy. That's how I'm dealing, anyway.

Quinn Hughes is the best player in hockey. 30 points in 19 games. Not even Bure was able to do this. Hes on another level. While Cale Makar is losing games for the Avs Quinn Hughes is winning them for the Canucks.
He's incredible....he's on a 1.58 P/GP pace right.

Absolutely amazing for a defenceman!

Makar isn't nearly as good, he is way behind with a 1.59 P/GP

Don't look now, but a horrible Blues team is now only 3 points back of the Avs
Meh, Central Division is weak, I can't see a scenario where we miss the playoffs considering Bednar managed to hold the team together last year despite dozens of injuries.

Oh, America is hypocritical about wars? :sarcasm:

Considering distances, with you being in Edmonton, this is kind of like if the US and Canada were actively fighting a war in Toronto, and people were like "Well, the players aren't in the war so we can still play the games in Sweden."

I'm not interested in a true political discussion, and we're not supposed to anyway, but Russian athletes representing the San Jose Sharks is way different right now than them representing their own country. The NHL can run a business all they want but when players form teams based on nationality, the tournament becomes political. This has, is, and will always be the case.

It's unfortunate, and it's not to spite the individual athletes or people, but it's something that as a European I can't support until there is peace in Europe.

Hypocritical, yes, of course.

I can't believe we are actually having this discussion JFC...

World isn't fair, deal with it. No matter how much you try to spin it, Russia waging a war in Europe is not the same as USA f***ing around in ME. It's not the same thing.

Whataboutism, one of the greatest Soviet propaganda tools, still alive to this day.

Not to get too political (too late for that), but why is it different? Is an Arab life worth less than a European (Ukrainian) life?

I like how you describe what the US was doing as just "f***ing around" but what Russia is doing as a war (which they both are/were).

It's not whataboutism, it's being unbiased and fair.

You are asking are western people viewing a war in the western part of the world, right next to them, differently than in the Middle East?

Yes, that's exactly the case. Like I said, it's not fair but tough shit. Is it the same thing for you if someone you love dies vs some random on the other side of the globe? We are all humans after all, shouldn't make any difference?

It might be all the same to you in North America, but it's not the same for Europeans.

The question is either you punish them for being Russian or not. If you allow them to play in the NHL then clearly being Russian isn't an issue...so let them play together for a world cup.

Russian athletes representing the San Jose Sharks is way different right now than them representing their own country.
This is an NHL tournament, not the olympics.
