On one hand, yes. Doing a proper rebuild by loading up on assets is the best way to achieve success in this league.Pushing all-in with a bad hand when they traded for Duchene instead of selling Panarin and Bob is at the center of Jarmo’s failure.
On the other hand, you had a franchise that hadn't done shit in their entire 19 years of existence. Try to convince the owners and fans that doing another rebuild when you actually have some top players is the way to go.
In the end, I still think that paid off for them. They got their first series win, and re-energized the fanbase.
