I think there were good reviews about Treiliving but players were mostly fed up with Sutter, no?
Who hired Sutter?

He’s terrible in my opinion. Not trading Tkachuk for futures is an awful move considering their situation and left the flames in a bad spot for the rest of the decade

That was my impression as well. Apparently that's why both him and Sutter were let go. Ownership tried to save face with the players by letting Treliving go, but they pushed back and said Sutter was the issue - not Treliving.

Sutter worked out pretty well for them at first.

It's possible ownership wanted Treliving to keep the team competitive. Tough situation when you lose your best two players and have little-to-no power to do anything about it.

I hope he's as bad as you think, though. Watching the Leafs continue to unravel has been entertaining.

And he was there for almost a decade. Wild.

Sub-par track record, gets hired to command one of the wealthiest teams in what is supposed to be their cup window. Old boys club in NHL never disappoints.

To be fair, they do not have time to hire an inexperienced guy. I am not aware of the GM market right now, but I imagine their options were also limited. Either give a serious pay increase for Dubas or get someone on the market that has the BEST chance of winning it. And they already had played the Burke card, lol. I really don't envy their situation. Generally, at least from the sense I have got from players, like Tkachuk interview, I sense that Treiliving MIGHT be a good one actually but of course he had his shortcomings with the Flames, but I their roster-building was not bad. They drafted ok, they traded in guys. Idk, will see. I think that Toronto core is rotten and overpaid, but he's a new guy coming in, I wonder if he will make Verbeek-moves of sending some core guys out. But seems it's not that the teams around the league want overpaid playoff underperformers

Three months after finalizing the purchase of the Penguins in January 2022, FSG executives held organizational meetings inside the Water Street Marriott, a waterfront hotel within walking distance of the Florida Aquarium and Tampa Riverwalk.

The executives asked to see Morehouse’s and Hextall’s plans for the business and hockey departments, respectively. Morehouse detailed team finances and waning ticket revenue in a PowerPoint presentation, but Hextall was caught off-guard by the request and said the hockey plan was in his head. Ordered to put it on paper, he scrambled that afternoon, hand writing his ideas on a legal pad, transferring them to a Word document and printing out a couple of pages in the hotel’s business office.

Haha yeah that part was absurd. I had to produce a comprehensive season plan to coach u14 a few years ago. Nothing the magnitude of running an NHL club, should ever be only mapped out in one's mind.

Think we finally have the details. So my caffeine-starved brain understands it as:

Kings get to dump Petersen in exchange for giving up Walker, Grans and a 2nd, in addition to retaining partially on Provorov. They take on Connauton and Hodgson (presumably to make some contract slots work?).

CBJ gets the biggest piece in Provorov at 70%. They give up a 1st and a conditional 2nd.

Flyers get some value out of Provorov at last....a 1st, 2 2nds, Walker and Grans, but must take on Petersen.

That's not a terrible haul for the Flyers I guess? 1st, 2 2nds, roster player and a decent D prospect. Petersen sucks ass, but whatever, Flyers aren't near contention.

Is CBJ really gonna try and go for it next year? 2 years of Provorov is not a lot of time...

Kings must really want to keep Gavrikov - and what a terrible gamble on Petersen in hindsight.

Jarmo really goes for the last attempt it feels. Lots of high-risk moves. Kind of can understand as Johnny is not getting younger. But feels like there is more of a chance it all coming to backfire rather than work out...

Gaudreau and Laine after seeing that Babcock is coming must be like:

Gavrikov deal is interesting.

So after the Kings give Vilardi a bridge deal, they will have around $3-4 mil in cap space to fill out their roster?

Arizona buying out Kassian and Nemeth, not sure why they need the cap. The Buy outs don't seem to make sense.

it's a cash savings move. It's just a pathetic joke of a franchise honestly.

I feel for the Arizona fans. At this point they may not even have a team there in a couple of years. Look at cap friendly and who is on the active roster. It's crazy.

I definitely feel for them, but it's a joke that the league has allowed them to continue as long as they have IMO.
Its torture to their fans. If the Coyotes had moved years ago it would have at least allowed their fans to find a new team instead of wasting their time/money when the team eventually ends up moving anyways to Houston/Atlanta/Milwaukee

I honestly think at this point its Bettman's stubbornness as the whole reason they are still there.
I question Bettman's health and if he's just keeping a serious illness a secret and wants to do the job until he cannot.

6 active forwards + 3 RFAs
4 active defensemen - all with only one year left in their deals (although 3 of which will be RFAs)
1 active goalie + 1 RFA

That's insane.

supposedly they're going to be active in the free agent market, but I can't imagine a ton of guys would want to sign there with the current state of the team.
