There's about a zero percent chance Calgary and Edmonton get split up. Rumors I've seen for relocation are Utah and Houston.
KC should be in the mix too. the market is there and they've had a NHL ready arena for years. plus they'd have a nice rivalry with the blues

I like that idea more than Houston. Except for traveling purposes the Salt Lake City team is closer to the Pacific teams than the Central teams like Chicago, so that team would have alot of travel distance to do like the Yotes.

I'm actually sad that Coyotes will likely move. Their retro (and now current) logo is one of my favourites in sport.

I know the NHL gave them a lot of rope, but Moyes absolutely killed any chance the Coyotes had when he got control.

Unfortunate for the Coyotes and their fans.

But really, listening to all the reports it really sounds like they could've won the vote, it's actually pretty close, if they just put on their best effort. But all that bad blood had to be cleared by a transparent effort to build new trust in the project after getting smeared on all fronts not just in Glendale, but Phoenix and Tempe as well.

Perhaps they needed to spend some 100M this season solely in goodwill towards those cities in order to secure maybe that same figure or more in tax payer funding for their project. I'm talking free tickets (I know, no seating), festivals, fan events. It was probably not plausible from a timeline standpoint for this season. That's one thing you don't generate by cheaping out: the hype.

Not clowning on the Leafs for a second here (well, maybe a little bit, but with more pity than malice), Dubas was their best GM, assembled the best team on paper since their last cup and they couldn't get it together.

It's gonna be painful for the next few years.
A lot of that work was done for him. All they key players on that team were drafted before he took over. He's added a few solid players but also failed to secure his top players for any UFA years.

I don't know how much I buy that draft argument. So many GMs have a shorter shelf life than the players they draft.

I think Dubas messed it up by signing them to those contracts in the beginning. But I don't think he was just some idiot who was handed some star players and didn't know what to do with them. This season in particular...I mean, the Leafs adding O'Reilly was f***ing huge.

He planted his flag behind the core, and the core failed. I don't think this is a situation like McDavid and Draisaitl where they play their asses off and the GM just doesn't capitalize on that and surround them with the right supporting players - the core four mostly shat the bed despite a pretty damn good supporting cast.

Is it not his fault at all? No, he has to take some blame at least. But I think he failed in a way that's distinctly different from other GMs in recent memory that makes me think he gets far more blame and less credit than he deserves.

Not saying he was bad per say. He did add good players. But he also handcuffed himself with those deals to his star draftees and then spent a lot on Tavares. He's been relatively creative I'm finding cap space. I don't thinknhe did a bad job just that I wouldn't give him too much credit in creating the best team they've had in 20 years.

Leafs letting Dubas go is a mistake imo. Dubas did pretty much everything possible to make a cup winning team, his players and coach didn't do the job. yeah, you can easily make an argument that the contracts he gave out weren't great, the Tavares signing probably shouldn't have happened either. I think any team that can get him will be pretty happy with him. I think it's kinda BS that the Leafs were all about extending him until the Dubas' press conference where he wasn't 100% sure he was coming back; then immediately dumped him. Comes off as "no you didn't break up with me, I broke up with you!" vibes.
