In former Leafs news, Galchenyuk is having a poor season. He was injured to begin the year but in the 9 games he has played he’s only racked up 2 assists. At this rate he’ll be KHL bound next year. Maybe he should’ve taken whatever deal the Leafs offered him instead of thinking he was hot shit after three months of play and f***ing us over in the playoffs. Now he’s wallowing on an awful Arizona team and has zero chance of building up any real value for another contract.

Every Canadian team gets the benefit of the doubt except for the leafs. Despite the leafs being better run and having significantly better talent than the rest of the them.

He is a painfully average player who brings physicality. How they valued a guy who should have been a mid-late 2nd round pick like a top 10 player is beyond me.

I don't know why they always pick the Jets to be the best team in the country. Do they expect Hellebuyck to go prime Hasek and carry them to the finals? The D isn't good and the coach should've been fired years ago.

It’s all perception. The Jets seem to have a team built for success. Names like Wheeler, Scheifele, Connor, Morrisey, Pionk, etc. give the team a real “North American tough guy” feel, and Hellebuyck being a great goaltender covers up a lot of their defensive woes.

It starts with pretending things like Scheifele-Dubois is comparable to Matthews-Tavares, which then leads to laughable claims like that the Jets have the best center group in hockey because their 3rd line C is Stastny or copp or something.
Then it continues with refusing to accept that the Leafs are a very good defensive team, which lets them excuse the Jets' awful defense by claiming that the Leafs' D isn't a strength either, when it obviously is.
From that point you just add in Hellebuyck plus the perception of the Jets being BIG and STRONG and it all makes sense how they continually get overrated especially in comparison to the Leafs.
And yes, it has everything to do with their perception of the Leafs, first.

Jack Hughes has 20 career NHL goals. And he’s not a rookie. And he wasn’t even a rookie last year. Let that sink in that his cap hit is higher than Brayden Point and Mathew Barzal’s current deals.
I get the “potential” angle but that’s getting taken care of a la some kind of old boys network at play.

Apparently Hughes underlying numbers are good… but that still doesn’t justify that deal when he’s put up 55 points and 20 goals in 110 games.
If Dubas paid for potential like that, it would be perceived so badly.
I mean he could break out with his potential but he’d have to put up such elite numbers to make this a steal. Otherwise it’s just fair.
