It is interesting to see the boards coming around to how dominant those Kings teams were now that we're far enough away from them.

I also remember there being some ridiculous streak of 80 games or some shit where the Kings didn't lose a game in regulation while leading after 2 periods. A byproduct of the crazy systematic grind of possession and limiting shots to the perimeter. In particular the main board going apeshit over the Game 3 shutout in NY in 2014. That was classic Kings oh we scored first? This game is over suckas! Time to slowly squeeze you to death for the next 50 minutes of game clock. Those were the days.

One report was for 3 years at close to $2 million. Report is from a scout. they'd screw up their cap even more. :D

If I were an undrafted/college FA, the Kings would be the last team I’d want to sign with. I’d aim for a team that has shitty prospects and an easier path to the NHL.

On that note, LD Alec Rauhauser signed a 1 year ELC with Florida today. I thought the Kings might have interest especially given the Bowling Green connection with Blake/Emerson. But Florida's LD is pretty thin; Somehow Michael Matheson was playing so poorly they were using him as a forward before the hiatus.

Fortunate enough to have seen him play, best player, as in revolutionized the position of defense that changed the game, that I ever saw. He was amazing to watch, he could do what few could and did it as easiliy as most of us drink water. It's hard for younger fans, who didn't see the game pre Orr to underdtand just how phenominal he was, his skating , his IQ, goal scoring, all of it. He created a whole new definition of what a skilled defenseman could do and opened the door.

And this is the list of award he won:

https://sports.jrank.org/pages/3564/Orr-Bobby-Awards-Accomplishments.html

And the famous photo of him standing with the tropies he'd won

And to think he did all that by the tine he was 31, and had to retire because his knees went (I think he had a dozen or so surguries by then). Imagine if he'd played 5 years more?

He was also, by those who knew him, played against him and covered him, a real class act.

I was a ranger fan growing up in nyc and we were so happy one year in the playoffs when Orr was scratched because of his knees , I even commented hope he never plays a again , hated the whole Boston team, actually all the Boston teams , but what a a**hole thing to say , he was so great and a joy to watch against other teams ,always regretted that after finding out how bad his knees were

Sure it has, April 3rd 1974 blew everything away.

Seriously. It's like we are back in the days where both NHL and NCAA free agents don't want to sign here now. Unless, the Kings weren't pursuing all of the players, which I doubt.

If you were a college FA, would you sign with the team that’s loaded with the best prospects in the league? Seems like that’d be the last thing you’d do if you want a path to the NHL.

Teams that are good have a stacked roster with few slots to fill and a small group attempting to fill those holes.

Also, not all young guns on a teams' youth movement will pan out.

It works both ways.
