Teams that are good have a stacked roster with few slots to fill and a small group attempting to fill those holes.

Also, not all young guns on a teams' youth movement will pan out.

It works both ways.

And most college free agents aren't worth the hype either. Not even close. Remember the coup the Rangers performed by stealing Vesey from Nashville? And he was a drafted college player. Most of these college free agents were never even drafted. They're 22, 23, probably as good as they're going to get. It's a free asset, but nobody should lose any sleep over 97% of them.

Daniel Brickey went from hottest UFA signing of the season to the side of a milk carton.

Seriously. It's like we are back in the days where both NHL and NCAA free agents don't want to sign here now. Unless, the Kings weren't pursuing all of the players, which I doubt.

I'm not the expert on this stuff, but the Kings have a lot of prospects and have a lot of picks to make in this draft: assuming they keep all of them or package for another pick.

Wouldn't there be issues with contract limits? Blake could afford to spray the field when he first came in but there have been enough drafts now to where it isn't a priority.

You could even look at it like Tyler Madden is Blake's NCAA signing this off-season. NCAA player that wasn't part of the prospect pool to start the season and then signed to a contract.

Won't be officially settled/finished because in an absolutely worst case scenario, certain aspects of federal bankruptcy law on preferences allow for returning that money into the debtor estate within 90 days.

Kane still is in a world of hurt. He has 4 lawsuits in progress against him. The cosmo simply was the most serious of the 5 he had.

Kane was being sued by 5 different parties.

1 is a contract. He evidently got a woman pregnant and offered her $3 million for an abortion - at least that is the claim. Kane's attorney did file a motion for summary judgement so they're waiting on that.

1 is the civil version of that assault case from NY. It's expanded to a few other claims like I think defamation. Witnesses have been issued subpeonas.

1 was the cosmo. That was settled but it won't be 100% done because in a worst case scenario under federal bankruptcy law, any payments made within 90 days of a bankruptcy filing can be clawed back into the debtor estate.

2 suits are by banks for failing to pay back loans.

Ready for the hot take of the summer? I let me friends pick on me for it so it's only fair to let you guys go to town

Gretzky is the 'greatest' of all time only because he was also healthy enough to compile. But there are 3 'better' players--Bobby Orr, Mario Lemieux....and Connor McDavid.

The fact that Gretzky was able to stay healthy and have the productive longevity he did should be accounted for in the caliber of player he was. I've heard Adam Oates talk about this as "not tolerating unnecessary contact" in reference to him being a skills coach for guys like Schiefele and Stamkos. Oates himself is a great example as far as longevity and durability goes. I take your point that McDavid, Orr, and Lemieux may be 'better' players, but if you expand the definition of who is 'better' to include the knack to play the game in a way that extends their durability and productivity, which I believe you should as career's are measured by their entirety, Gretz wins out.

You can still make the HHOF with a high peak (e.g. Lindros), but to be the greatest player to ever play you need the full body work of work taken into account and can't just normalize to Lemieux or Orr's career length.
