After the deadline, didn't Dorion essentially take accountability for trading away all of Ottawa's talent, and say that he believes in Boucher?

That was Monday. Today, Friday, Boucher gets fired.

I’ve always been a big fan of Guy Boucher and if we can somehow hire him as a PP specialist, it would be a step in the right direction IMO.

He’s also a very solid communicator, which is very important with the young team we presently have and the youth we’ll be throwing in our lineup in the next couple of years.

He didn’t get any favours from his Gm or his owner but I guess it’s a good thing for him since the Sens are going nowhere for the next several seasons.

random thought, but early '10s, devils, rags, and flyers had PDB, torts, and lavi as coaches. those 3 are now once again coaching competitive teams in the sharks, CBJ, and the preds.

Pete's not a bad coach at all, he just heavily favors veterans and that's tough for a rebuilding team.

Guy is similar and that's why I think they let him go

PDB wasn't and isn't a bad coach.

He just isn't a good developer of youth. His strength is getting the most out of a group of established, competitive veterans. It's why we went further than expected in 2012, and it's why Pete looked like a complete moron after his best two veterans left the team.

He wasn't able to adapt, but that doesn't make him a bad coach. Every coach has their respective strengths and weaknesses.

He had the worst media/communication/social skills out of everyone that gets in front of cameras regularly (Broadcast, GM, Coach, team captains, etc.)
Everything that came out of his mouth was a straight lie, made no sense, or made him look incompetent.

It was fine when the team was winning. We can laugh at him staring at boobs during the finals and his every building is a tough building line.

It was hell when the team was doing bad and he comes out with crap like
"Its not my (Coach's) job to teach the players"
"I put out the best lineup to win every game" immediately before starting Brodeur over Schnieder.

He also didn't understand players' abilities. He'll demand aggressive/risky pinches when his lineup consists of Colin White, Anton Volchenkov, Mark Fraser, and OMG.

If Pete coached last year's team, Cory wouldn't have been benched after that San Jose game (maybe he wouldn't have been blown up though, since he wouldn't have been facing Pete, who really wants to beat us and makes sure they're always ready for us!) and we would have missed the playoffs because he's very stubborn with goalies. Just like with Hedberg in 2013, just like the stupid playing of Clemmensen over Vokoun at times in Florida when Vokoun was one of the best goalies in the league, just like the whole stupid Marty/Cory BS in 2013-2014, just like when he played Jones so many games in 16-17, despite Jones being mediocre and Dell actually being good that year and just like he's doing with Jones this year (Dell hasn't been good though, so I guess I can't kill him for that), despite being one of the worst goalies in the NHL this year.

Blackwood probably never would have played under DeBoer.

Agreed, PDB is easily, and I mean easily the better system coach. Fundamentals and possession.

That said, based on PDB's waning years with us and the retirement home roster we iced, Pete's lineups from a personnel perspective would be maddening at this stage. Hynes is here because we do have, and will have so many kids coming up through the ranks.

In terms of on the ice though, Hynes would be out-coached by Pete given equivalent lineups every time.

i think if the devils were playing like they were last year when kovy came to town it would've been a different story. two bottom barrel teams middle of the week in the winter is meh big time
