Kopitar's raise was basically the cap hit that the Kings got for either Williams or Lucic. He got 2 year money in Washington, and the Kings couldn't give that to him with the way the team was at the time. Yes, buy Richards out in 2014, don't sign Gaborik in 2014, then there's all kinds of money for Williams and Kopitar. But that's not how it was in 2015. Lombardi made his bed. They didn't let Williams go. They had to watch him go, because they didn't have the cap room in the 2nd year, which was this year.

Not to mention Williams was on the 14-15 team, and was one of the guys that didn't produce down the stretch which includes when they couldn't win a game against the Oilers to save their season. 2014 was great, but keep him after 2015 for what, loyalty? What is this, a country club retirement home?

18 goals in '15. He's not why they missed the playoffs which was still a fluke.

It wouldn't be loyalty to bring him back. He's a guy that can still play.

Did they not actually have the cap room or were they still counting on Voynov's $4MM to be there in '15 and '16?

Lewis was good for LA this year, but his contract expired going into this season. There is $2MM there. Move Dwight King and his $1.6 after last season and we are good. Room for all three in 2016 and then you have the two of them gone for, presumably, younger players which is what everyone seems to want anyways. Oh, and they make a first round selection in 2015 as opposed to sitting out the first round for two straight seasons! The downgrade from Lucic to Williams would not of been enough to make the Kings lose a potential #1OA to Carolina.

McNabb at $1.7MM. Jesus Christ why don't any of us ever bring that up? I don't care that he is a defenseman with, I guess, more upside than Clifford but we rag on a guy that has bled for this team for years and contributed (see goal in Game 1 SCF 2014, assist on GWG for the Cup in '14) due to his $1.6MM while we never make a peep about McNabb's hit.

BigKing,

I think it's because Clifford has just been here so long, usually fourth line players don't play 7 seasons with the same team, plus he came in somewhat hyped and has been a pretty disappointing player (although the same can be said of McNabb).

Either way, they are both overpaid and could be replaced by players making less. I would hope both are playing elsewhere next season.

Giving up assets for one year of Lucic is still a much better move than bringing Williams back for two years, a guy that was noted as a real leader in the room as well.

Unless he simply was going to go back East regardless, it's such a stupid move.

Let your most clutch guy go and then see a team be anything but clutch ever since.

Rumor was that Williams'wife wanted to go back east. That's why Mayor had those Williams trade rumors going for awhile.

Lombardi had to replace Williams somehow.

Hot takes -

- Go Oilers. I have a few Oilers fans and I don't dislike them. The #BaetLA rhetoric is too much. **** the Sharks and the entire Bay Area.

- Oilers better hope Lucic continues to show up because for a supposed playoff performer, he was absolutely DREADFUL for the Kings last season.

- It's satisfying to see Dubnyk lose. I like Bruce Boudreau a lot, but the whole State of Hockey nonsense is annoying. It's too much.

- How the **** did the Blue Jackets amass 108 points???

- Go Bruins. I hope Melnyk throws a tantrum in his press box and then goes sobbing to Garrioch after Marchand spears some Senator in the nuts. You know it's gonna happen. Marchand can't control himself.

- In a Rangers/Canadiens series, we all lose. Two awful teams with awful fanbases. Pulling slightly for the Rags because the arrogance in Montreal is unprecedented.

The bigger question...how the hell was Jack Johnson a +26 ?

Herby-

I understand why since a lot has to do with the length of the deal in the first place, but all we ever do is rag on McNabb's sucking as opposed to sucking and taking up $1.7MM in space. Just found it surprising that his hit was that much. If I don't know a guys cap hit on this team, it is because it is never talked about.

Reaper-
That's why I mentioned if he was a goner regardless to go back East then it is a moot point. Takes two to tango so Dean may not of had a choice. Maybe it will be in DL's book one day.

Unbelievable no call for too many men against the Ducks. Flames immediately get called for hooking and give up a PP goal off the face-off that they tipped in themselves.

Ducks might be charmed this post-season.

Yeah I think it was a foregone conclusion he was going back East. Who knows what could happen now that he's going to be a free agent again, but I don't think he'll come West again.

And 3 in the last 30 games of the season. That year will always be the biggest what if season for the Cup champion Kings core that we knew.

Like I said, Lombardi made his bed. He didn't work that way. The only non-backup goalie from either Cup team that he traded was King a few weeks ago. The guys that left in free agency were the older guys, like Mitchell, and Williams, and Scuderi. He tried to keep as many players together from those teams as he possibly could at all times. Buy out Richards, and he could've kept Williams(unless he was going east anyway), but Richards was the ultimate Lombardi player, even more than Williams. Maybe even more than Ricci. That's who Lombardi was post Cups. He wasn't going to get rid of 2 guys to keep 1 guy. He'd get rid of 1 guy to keep 2 guys. He could've done a whole bunch of things differently to keep different guys, but for him, the whole was greater than the sum of the parts. When it worked, there wasn't a more resilient team anywhere. When it didn't, 1 playoff win in 3 years.

Flames have a 5 on 3 for over a minute. Can't even get in the zone.

Flames will be lucky if they win one game in this series. They just can't beat the Ducks.

I don't know, I thought it was pretty close last night...had they not made that horrible line change, things could have went the other way.

I have no idea how a season of whiny Flames fans and the Tkachuk incident would make any Kings fan not want to see the Ducks get swept while being shutout every game.

Who are you people?

I don't understand the hate for Tkachuk. He elbowed Doughty. Big deal. Brown elbowed Pominville. I guess Tkachuk did it on purpose but so what. We'd all love the guy if he was on the Kings. He's a pest and plays his role extremely well. Sure I don't like him but it still doesn't make me want to root for the Ducks.

If he were just a pest it would be okay. He's a dirty ****ing player and a spot picker.

Elbow on Doughty. Tries to jump everyone to start his fights--tries to go with Muzzin before finally settling with Mcnabb.

Have you seen his fight card? ****ing Wennberg? He had the chance to go with Foligno or Saad but waited till Wennberg came in then jumped him like he did Muzzin. Playing the Flyers, he starts instigating with Provorov with Simmonds and Gudas on the ice, and jumps Konecny.

The slew foots.

and on Davidson.

THe elbows.

Less than one NHL season and he's shaping up like Matt Cooke. He's a turd that far surpasses any hate I have for the Ducks.

Hating a player in his first year on another team should not erase 25 years of hate and have it be okay for Anaheim to get closer to its 2nd Cup.

If I were you, I'd be going for Tkachuk to play poorly and look silly while Calgary still wins.

It's like Corey Perry hasn't existed for 10-11 seasons because here comes Matthew Tkachuk.

All I want this post season is for the Ducks to lose a round and for every Canadian team to lose a round.

I grew a strong hate for the Flames this season. That's why I want the Ducks to embarrass them in the first round. I equally hate the Ducks and the Sharks, so for me it doesn't matter if the Ducks make it to the second round because one of the Ducks or the Sharks will be eliminated in that round since they will play each other most likely.
