Swung by the main board Karlsson thread... this was basically how it went...

I know I know, as soon as the deal was made I was afraid of this and it might come into reality.![]()
I've never understood this. You don't "win" a trade wishing bad things to happen to some college kid. You also don't get all that many decent assets without trading something for them. The kid was then and now a good prospect and I wish him well.

No I'm not wishing anything bad on anyone but simply stating it would suck if Fasching became a good player for the Sabres and we traded him away. Yeah you gotta give to get and you never know how these trades are going to pan out but just don't like seeing a potential prospect we have go to another team is all. Imagine him being another LeClair type player or even a poor mans Tkachuk big strong and can score. Sheesh and we had him.
I haven't visited that thread in awhile, but reading articles out there it is CLEAR that these guys don't even watch the games. Even the ones that are pro-Doughty, when I read stuff about why he should win the Norris and it mentions stuff like number of hits and blocked shots...c'mon now. It's quite simple, watch the damn games. What do your eyes tell you as far as playing defense? Doughty is actually nullifying the best of the best. You see it when you watch. EK? Too much gambling, too much lack of attention to detail without the puck, missing defensive assignments. It's quite easy to see while watching that he's not a good defender.
I couldn't care less about EK's defensive potential "when he wants to play defense, he's good at it". This same argument is brought up with Malkin "When he's on, he's the best in the world!". How long ago was that? You are or you aren't based on your effort level and he isn't. I'm a Lakers fan it used to drive me insane when people on Lakersground would say "Kobe could average a triple double if he wanted to!". Just because Kobe is capable of making a great pass, doesn't make him a great passer. He's not. That's not Kobe's game and never was. Same thing here. Just because EK is capable of making a great defensive play, that doesn't make him a great defender. People call him a 4th forward, but hell, if he actually was a forward, you think he plays Selke type defense? Hell no.
Klefbom should be a very good defender, probably a #2 just a little under Muzzin, on the Oilers for the next decade plus; want to get a mulligan on that Penner deal?
I get what you're saying but fortune favors the bold and we have proof.
Yeah, I don't care what any of those guys amount to. We won 2 damn Cups. It wasn't McNabb for Fasching. There were 2 other incredibly important assets, 2 2nd round picks. One was shipped for Gaborik. Remember, the McNabb trade happened prior to the Gaborik trade that day. AND DL had traded those 2 later to be re-acquired 2nds the year before for RR. The Kings got full value out of those trades. Traded futures for present help (2014) and future in McNabb. I won't lament losing Fasching for 1 second. I'll root for him since he's out East
There's a reason players are called assets. You can use them to improve your team, which is exactly what the Kings did. If Fasching was still a King, you're looking at 2-3 years of development before he makes it into the line up.

As long as we win Cups I don't give a dang. If the Fasching trade got us a cup then I'm all for it.
It's not even whether they watch the games or not. A LARGE contingent of opinioners are weighing his fantasy stats above all. The dude is a miscast defenseman. He should be a forward (he'd probably be a great defensive forward).
You pick Doughty to build a team around over Karlsson 100 times over 100. Anyone who doesn't is going to have a team finishing right around where the Sens are in the standings.

Article on Brown trying to rediscover his game. He talks about watching video of his younger self on friday..I noticed he was hitting hard against the Oilers Saturday. I wonder if this had an impact.
Karlsson wins Fantasy league Doughty wins real leagues.
If there was an award for being MVP of a fantasy league Karlsson would win 100 out of 100.
Can he summon upon the 2012 Playoff Brown?
funny enough, even that's debatable - Burns has been more valuable this year in fantasy, I'm almost 100% sure.
Watching this I believe he's most effective as a pest. If he's not getting under the other team's skin via a big hit or else, he's not as effective.
He's probably too worried about suspensions and being known for playing on the edge, and that would explain his timid play the last couple years. Hopefully playoff Brown realizes this.
I guess that's true. Bruns more goals, SOG, and PIMs (if your league counts that). EK would have PP though.
Either way, Drew is the D-man anyone should take if building an Actual team not fantasy.
