Around the League '15-'16: The Final Countdown

I guess you didn't learn anything last night. Hahn said Thornton is a Selke candidate, Burns should win the Norris, and Donskoi somehow is a Calder candidate. Also was shocked that a team's leading scorer can also be a good back checker.

The Thornton comment was just so funny because about 5 minutes before he talked about how he no longer kills penalties.
How exactly does a Selke nominee not play on the PK?
And it's not even a case of playing a little he has about 3:30 minutes of total PK time this whole year.

Ray Emery reporting to the flyers on a try out? What is this 2013?

No, neuvirth is out injured (torn meniscus) and Mason dinged his knee end of the game before last. I'm guessing Emery is insurance in case there is an issue with the knee.

They have 3 sets of back to backs in the next 12 days, and based on what Hextall said, Emery is #3, just there for depth (injuries happen)

Guess Bryzy was busy....

Keith with a pretty vicious stick hack to the face of Coyle. Guy is an absolutely elite player but never seems to get recognized as being one of the dirtier, skilled players in the league.

Still bitter about '13 though, when he chopped Carter's face and got a game for it while Carts missed 2.

Pretty sure Carter didn't miss any games.

And the Kings blew Game 4 at home with Keith suspended.

Carter is still reminded of it every time he smiles.

This dumbass hasn't learned. I doubt he gets more than 3 games. But the league will be sending a terrible message by not throwing the book at Keith. Slashes to the face are no joke.

Minnesota, 5-0 against the Hawks. Chicago, 0-4-1 against the Wild. You could look at each record and say that for Minnesota, it's the reason they'll make the playoffs, and for the Hawks, it might be the reason they don't win the Central.

by the way, if you guys want to live the authentic bandwagon Hawks fan experience in real-time like I get to every time I go to a bar, feel free to check out the Keith suspension thread on the mainboard. loads of absolutely un-biased, well-adjusted individuals calmly sharing their opinions there.

Wouldn't it be great if the suspension directly took into account the games lost of the injured player? For example, Keith was suspended for 1 game and Carter was out for 2 games. So it could have been 1 game suspension + 2 for games lost to Carter, so Keith gets 3 games. This could obviously have a conditional soft cap, depending on the severity of the injury and intent to injure. So the offending player wouldn't necessarily be out the whole season, if the injured player was.

This, to me, seem mostly apt in a playoff setting where one player can take out a key player of another team, but can still play himself.

I'm obviously on the pipe dream bandwagon here. Just thinking out loud.

So I was creeping on the Black Hawks section... checking out the thread on Keith.... it's about 3 posts and disappointing. There is however a thread on the Scuderi/Ehrhoff trade. I read the last page and there is an amazing debate going.

Couldn't take much more then the last page. :shakehead

Today, Elliotte Friedman’s 30 thoughts column starts with an interesting take on Adam Oates, who is a ‘personal coach’ to several players around the NHL.

Remember that candid interview with Mike Yeo after he was fired ,where he spoke out strongly about Suter and Parise hiring Adam Oates as a personal coach? Well it turns out Oates has 16 clients in the NHL and it rubs some GM’s the wrong way, as his strong personality and advise to the player can contradict what their coaches do. Stamkos is one of his clients and you have to wonder if that is part of the issue Stamkos has with Cooper. I wouldn’t like it either if I was a GM or coach.

Some of the 30 points cover the Vesey situation, and how the Preds got screwed, possible tampering and how hard it is to prove (it was said on TSN yesterday that it’s rather rampant in the NHL but too hard for teams to prove).

He should get a good long suspension, for what he did which was pretty clear. Both the Chicago Tribune and Sun Times mentioned the Carter incident weighing against him but the Sun Times noted:

Keith is not considered a repeat offender because the previous suspension was more than 18 months ago, but that only affects the amount of salary forfeited, not the length of a suspension.

That stinks...there should be no statute of limitations...

he should get 10-12 games given past history, but i'm not holding my breath

NHL has every reason to milk the Blackhawks bandwagon for all it's worth, doubtful they give him more than a relative slap on the hand as per usual.

was surprised how we have not heard of Mr. Universe all year. Anyone know what he is up to?

18 months is a joke. Should be 10 (months) x the length of the suspension. If suspension is 1 game lenght it stays on their record = 10 months. 20 games = 200 months.

bigger crime = bigger length it stays on...maybe 10 is too much, but idea just came to me

I am guessing he is suspended at max the rest of regular season which is like what 7 games?
He will be in the hawks lineup round 1

pretty sure it's 5, and yeah, rest of regular season doesn't do jack all except rest him for the playoffs

**** like this really turns me off when it comes to how inconsistently the NHL is run.

I will be shocked if he gets a punishment that actually amounts to something.

THe Ducks put him on waivers about a year ago, this interview is from Nov, when he was at a Flyers game. He lives in Haddonfield nJ and coachs his kids hockey team

man did his stock fall..he looked so good with his original stint with the Ducks and later the Coyotes. I remember LA would have had waiver priority on Phoenix but they won that night and the Coyotes got him. Was pissed at the time...worked out though
