Reno Sucks!
No shocker here... The Magic Man heading back to play in Russia.
Keep an eye on AZ to take his contract, as they are by far the furthest below the floor.

I have no idea why Detroit feels the need to unload Datsyuk's contract as if they're going to be competitive this year? ***** please.

i'm sure they want to make a play for Stamkos.
Wow. Strombo out. MacLean back in.

I'm all for trying new things, but it never felt right watching HNIC without MacLean.
can someone explain why Detroit is on the hook for Datsyuk's contract if he is leaving for Russia by his own choice?

It's a 35+ contract, so his cap hit will remain until the contract expires. It was put in place to dissuade teams from handing out retirement contracts that would circumvent the cap.
Like Gaborik's!
Edit: Which was signed before 35
Yeah, Kings are safe if Gaborik decided to return home.
It's a similar issue that the Flyers had with Pronger until they moved his contract to the Coyotes. It's dead cap space that they place on LTIR but it still counts towards a team's cap until he retires, even though Pronger is unofficially retired. The Flyers signed him to a foolish contract when he was over 35.

that is a bunch of bs...the guy working in hockey opps while getting paid from flyers ... conflict of interest, no not at all.
Datsyuk's contract will be dealt to the Canes is my guess.
After buying the Hartford Whalers in 1994 and deciding to move them shortly thereafter, Peter Karmanos Jr. thought he had found a good spot: suburban Detroit. The site was the Palace of Auburn Hills, the spiffy and modern home of the Detroit Pistons, who said he was welcome to share their basketball arena. Karmanos knew the market, too. He grew up in the Motor City, still lives in the area and cheered in his youth for the Detroit Red Wings.
There was one major problem: the Red Wings did not want competition in what they call Hockeytown, and the N.H.L. did not like the idea either. Plus, there were also personal considerations. Karmanos was then and remains now a bitter rival of Mike Ilitch, the owner of the Red Wings. While Karmanos built his fortune around Detroit with a computer software business and Ilitch grew rich here in pizza, both men sponsored extensive amateur hockey programs locally.
When Karmanos ran a major junior team at Joe Louis Arena, the home of the Red Wings, Ilitch evicted him, forcing Karmanos to relocate to the suburbs in 1995. When the Detroit star Sergei Fedorov was a restricted free agent and sat out most of a season, Karmanos tried to entice him away in 1998.
Although both Karmanos and Ilitch have staked out corporate headquarters in downtown Detroit, they are not exactly pals who will share pizza or a plate of octopus in Greektown. "There's nothing I'd rather see than the Whalers just whip the Detroit Red Wings," Karmanos told The Hartford Courant in 1995. "That would be fun."
I was curious if there was any lingering ill will between Detroit and Carolina's owner. I think Elliotte Friedman mentioned it too in his last 30 thoughts piece. While it would help Carolina reach the floor without spending any actual money, Carolina's owner might still be bitter enough to not help out a business rival.

If Datsyuk is dealt to Carolina I think it would be Detroit helping out Carolina more than the other way around. Given the legal troubles stemming for the Hurricanes owner not making interest payments getting to the cap floor without havign to pay a player could be very enticing.
But it could also be a PR nightmare. The market is already hurting thanks to not making the playoffs for years. And it is telling your fans you aren't going to spend money on the team.
