Yeah it is...but this is GM who in 2011 signed Ville Leino to 6yrs at 4.7 per. He's not shy when it comes to overpayment. Sabres have 50M committed to 12 forwards, 4 d and 2 goalies for next season. But given the amount of talented young players that will come off of the 3 yr rookie deals in quick succession, it's hard to see how that would fit.

Not to mention Pegula is playing with Monopoly money

To be fair, Darcy Regier was GM in 2011. Tim Murray took over in 2014. But yeah, I would put the Leino/Ehrhoff thing partially on the owner wanting to make a big splash after buying the team a few months beforehand.

The Devils have a ton of cap space, but I always use the Leino/Ehrhoff thing as a cautionary tale for the posters who think that the Devils have to spend the money right now. Albeit at the time, I don't think anybody figured Ehrhoff was going to fall off that quickly.

In the past , yes, with the current leadership group, no. They are doing it right, clearing out the old, drafting skill, letting them get their minute sin juniors and w/the Marlies. They have a strong group of talented forwards that will be coming up next year and a very good coach. They are on the right path. Andersen is the most important step in that direction.

Maybe so, but I'll believe it when they stick to the plan for more than a year or two. That fanbase and media... :shakehead

Hearing Blackhawks seriously kicking tires on Evgeni Malkin. Will be interesting to see how they create cap space...

Can't see that at all...30M on 3 players????

Mark Lazerus ‏@MarkLazerus 2h2 hours ago

Patrick Kane is staying and working out in Chicago this summer rather than go home to Buffalo. A source said that was at the team's request.

I'm guessing that's not the only request the team had...

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 4m4 minutes ago

It should come as no surprise if Goligoski takes himself out of UFA and signs a five-year deal with the Coyotes in near future.

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 2h2 hours ago

Of note in NHL sked for next season: five-day ``bye'' break for each club sometime between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28 as NHLPA bargained for last yr

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 2h2 hours ago

Must be the Ducks who got the exception for the bye week past Feb. 28: they don't play between Feb. 25 and March 3

For the hawks to acquire malkin either toews or kane would have to go the other way..christ would that be huge

A little clarification.

Yandle would be stupid to not take that deal. Holy over payment.

I agree. I think he will be good for 3 years but the last four will be ugly. He played very sheltered minutes in New York. Doesn't mean he is not capable of more like he had played previously, but maybe cause of concern.

GM's tend to overpay for d, Shattenkirk wants 7...and he'll get it next year.
Makes you wonder how high the mark will be for Doughty...

According to NESN, the BRuins (one of a few teams) looking to trade for Shattenkirk, the asking price was a 1st rounder north of 15 and a top prospect or young player.
