That's not really fair, if Quick had signed for 5 years (or even 7, like Rinne) his AAV would be $7M.
Is Andersen in the same area code as a goalie as Quick, though?

Quick's contract looks better every season.
So does Carter's, and so would Kopitar's if it was signed in cap circumventing dream land pre-2013.
I blame the Eastern Conference for ruining it for everyone.
Quick signed his before there was a limit on contract length. You can't make a 1-to-1 comparison between the contracts. As someone above pointed out, if Quick had signed a 5-year contract, his AAV certainly wouldn't be the $5.8 million it is now.Is Andersen in the same area code as a goalie as Quick, though?

Each guy at their best? No.
that's probably a better way of putting it.
Anderson is more consistent i think though

How is he more consistent when he's appeared in far less games?
Not a fair comparison as Andersen's only played 125 games vs 475 for Quick. Andersen hasn't reached his best yet.
Andersen is a very talented goalie and that's a very good deal (5 x5 ) he signed. You build a team from the back forward and now the Leafs have a goalie. They have a bunch of good young forwards already in the mix, with Matthews on the way in Marner, Kappanen, Nylander, Brown among others. They now need to focus on defense and Gardiner is pretty good, I think Morgan Reilly has all the right tools, esp skating, to be a top d and from the little I saw of Connor Carrick, who needs more seasoning, he has the talent to be very good d. My guess is they will add to that in this years draft.
It takes time to undo so many years of mismanagement but they are trending in the right direction by building from the back forward
Calgary pushed hard for Andersen as well but fell short. Now I guess they be calling the Bolts and trying for Bishop. Or maybe Fleury.
I don't see Andersen as any better than Bernier was when he went there. I'm afraid he ends up on the same trash heap. They have no patience in Toronto.[/ ]
Fleury seem to make the most sense for the Flames IMO
But Newport isn’t talking and neither is the Tampa Bay Lightning, so nothing has changed there. But some of the numbers being speculated on are upwards of $12 million per year coming out of Buffalo

Any shot at Fleury died with Rutherford's wanting the Flames #1 pick (#6 overall )in return.

That's nuts. Fleury is what, 32?
I guess Calgary could get Reimer , without losing anything, if they can't get Bishop.
Not worth the #6 overall pick, and although he's been very good in the regular season, he's not the Rock of Gilbratar in the playoffs in the last 6 years or so. I've seen him crack under pressure. Both have expiring contracts and Fleury would be cheaper to resign next summer, that's a plus. But unless Rutherford comes down in price, I can't see that happening.
Calgary needs a goalie, it's just a matter of what price they are willing to pay.
Andersen would have been a good fit ,as he is younger than the other 2 and would have been closer in age to the core group they are forming. But that's not an option now.
Stamkos - Dreger speculating on what he's heard on how the Sabres are all in on Stamkos

Holy **** that's way too much for Stamkos.

Agreed he is not worth the 6OA. The penquins are currently over the cap, and Calgary really is the only team looking for a #1. Maybe Carolina. So it would be a buyers market for Calgary.
I thought so too but then they signed Ward. Unless that was insurance in case they didn't get anyone else.
Hard to believe some feel that VL retiring is cap circumvention
I would be shocked if it were that high unless it was a very short term deal.
