Demko pretty much the only reason we win this game. Multiple big saves on breakaways and odd-man rushes including the one that led to the penalty shot winner in OT.

Skaters generated very little in terms of high quality chances during regulation. People will be unhappy with us being outplayed by the Sharks but let's face it, we're essentially a bottom-feeder roster whenever Hughes isn't on the ice.

Myers was a horse and our good only good player on the powerplay, which says something about the other guys. He and Metey together are giving us what he and Soucy did last season but even better.

Petey again essentially a no-show other than the one pass to Hoglander in the slot. Has no confidence or determination in his game, simple as that.

Speaking of Hoglander, continues to play well. He's a bull on the forecheck and behind the opposing goal line when he's dialed in. Needs more offensively capable linemates when he's playing this way. Like others have been saying, put him back with Petey to try to spark something.

interesting game to half watch with the sound down.

i like how hronek is rising to the occasion with hughes out and using the left side of the ice.

it would be great if they scored more

The new Pettersson discussion is "let him try to have a strong summer, no fixing this year". I mean, how many times are we going to do this? Hit the gym bud.

there's something kind of funny (not really) about pettersson imploding like this after securing the bag

like, if this was the last season of his previous deal... he'd be looking at like, $7m, even with the increased cap

Honestly, the best part that came from this game, and probably the most important right now is Joshua.

He had one game where he was kind of iffy, but the last two out of three he’s really starting to turn it on.

This is immensely important, really happy for him.

If he pops at the 4 Nations, yes. If he doesn't, a few people here are going to have to rethink the "no injury" tag line.

This theory he is not resting some injury that has plagued him for over a year, for some unknown reason, is ludicrous to me. Then goes off and plays at a best-on-best tournament. Like what... and another summer is supposed to help how exactly?

If Pettersson was injured, would he play in the 4 Nations? I'm sure that he would not lie to the GM of the Swedish team, and if he was injured, they would select a replacement player. I don't think Pettersson is injured.

If the general suckiness or skating/shooting/confidence/whatever it is issues won't get worse, then sure why not. He's already playing through whatever the issue with him is and management has no issues with that.

There's about a dozen posters here, so bitter that a Benning trade outshined EP, that they will never let it go. Crying injury now for 5 years. It's cult like, beyond reason, and they will die on that tiny hill.

Don't even bother, just exercise your ignore feature.

I don't think the team views it as serious enough for him to rest.

I mean, even Hughes would be going to the 4 Nations while injured so...?

There's a lot of frustration with his play, I understand. He's getting ripped hard. But if something is impeding his speed, per objective measurement, then it is what it is.

He’s been this player for over a year, including an entire off-season, the team has constantly stated he’s not injured. I’m confused on what the conspiracy theory even is here? He has some degenerative injury that’s never getting better and they won’t trade him knowing that because they know he’ll fail another team’s physical?

O’Connor
  • Adds a lot to the team
  • Coachable kid and wants to learn
Goalie Battle
  • Both goalies were great
  • Could have got the puck to the net a little bit more
  • Didn’t give the Sharks a lot but when they did, Demko made saves
  • In an 82 game schedule, there will be games where you have to grind it out and find a way to win
Life Without Hughes
  • Can’t have passengers; need everyone to contribute
  • Hoglander was really good tonight; Aman did his job; the whole Blueger line did a nice job
OT Win
  • It’s been a while and they’ll take it
New Guys Contributing Right Away
  • Important to make them feel welcome
  • With this organization, when a player is acquired they get taken care of
  • Try to get them to just think about hockey and not worry about off the ice
  • Have been at the rink and lots of smiles
Joshua
  • Looking like his old self in the last 3-4 games
  • Has some jump
  • Guys like him are really stepping up
Demko
  • Over the last 3-4 weeks, in practice and games, he’s getting some traction
  • Has a lot of respect for him
Marcus Pettersson
  • He settles things down; lots of subtle plays
  • Is a leader in the room; didn’t just sign him because of his on-ice performance but the way he is off the ice as well
  • Wanted to play for the Canucks; short negotiations because both sides wanted to get it done

3 games played since this quote.
0 points, 2 shots

You can tell by the way he said it he didn't mean it at all.

Its nothing more complicated than his speed dropping by 50%, and one side thinking it's a mental thing and another thinking it's injury.

I take no issue with anyone choosing to ascribe this to a mental block. Let's see if that block goes away at the 4 Nations?

Either way, it's going to be a data point.
