I am so curious to see which Petey shows up there.

If he is absent again—maybe it is the injury. Maybe it is between his head.

If he shows up—maybe it is the relationship.
He had shots and looks on the PP and just didn't take them. I buy that he has an injury and it's affected his skating, but he's absolutely there on plays—he just chooses to chuck chances away and it's sad to see.

Most encouraging thing was another strong game from Demko. Most alarming thing is Petey’s continued struggles.

Clutch OT winner from O’Connor, and nice to get a freaking OT win for once. Pissed me off we even got there because Toffoli’s tying goal was such a self inflicted error, but oh well.

Take the win, and hopefully have a stronger, better finishing effort against Toronto.

Mr. Canucklehead Pete 1c seems done man

Demko being back in form is huge. No idea what happened after the 1-0 goal that tilted the ice so heavily the other way. Possession numbers looked more like last years numbers despite the shot counter.

Flabbergasted at Petey’s complete disappearance. No clue what’s going on there, I’m beside myself at this point. Does anyone have a comparable for any center falling off this hard at this age? Given his minutes I’d be shocked if he was playing at anything beyond replacement level since he came back from that short absence.

Whether or not pettersson is injured, he is smart enough to move(even slowly) yet is not. He needs to want the puck on his stick and he doesn't. He should be moving on the powerplay but idles.

The falling down on every faceoff... I dont f***ing get.

It’s hard at this point not to conclude the guy just doesn’t work hard enough, doesn’t do adequate conditioning, and is just sort of a slacker.

Pettersson 1 point in 4 games since the Miller trade.

Somehow he keeps getting bailed out, tonight it was by Demko.

He's now 6th on the Canucks in scoring this season, as the 5th highest paid player in the entire league.
He's injured and still playing selke defense though

Probably score 10 goals
Maybe. I feel like the 4 Nations is an opportunity for a mental reboot for Pettersson. If he is suddenly playing well for Sweden, then we know he has some psychological issues that he has to fight through. I feel like that is something that can be worked out, and we will have elite Pete back at some point. I'll be watching him very closely at 4 Nations.

Canucks are one of the lowest shot volume teams in the league and you are suggesting that COACHING has to encourage them to pass up shots?

I get what what you are saying but this isn't on coaching my man. The Canucks need to shoot the f*king sh*t out of the puck from every chance and every angle until the end of the season. It's all about proof of concept with the roster build from now on
No they don't. This same approach produced the same lack of offence last year. It just looked better because we were scoring off counters from very disciplined neutral zone play.

Teams around the league are producing more offence on less shots. League shot volume is the lowest in a decade, yet the average goalie save percentage is also the lowest (Why NHL save percentages have been declining for a decade Why NHL save percentages have been declining for a decade) .

Young players are being trained to maximize shot quality. That's the trend, and as they come into the league it's starting to shape the direction of teams offensive mindset.

The issue is not that the Canucks aren't shooting enough. It's that they are shooting low volume AND the shots they take are also low quality. All they have to do to modernize their approach is to pass up more point shots and work the puck to create undesirable switches by the opposing defence. At this point in hockey training and tactics that's basic stuff.

Polarizing game. Huge 2 points. Demko excellent again. Let's hope Alvin is cooking a recipe to solve the obvious need for top 6 forward help.

I feel like Petey is hurt, don’t play

It's to the point where I wonder if they should just sit expensive Pettersson for a game to give him a reset. If something is ailing him it won't be long enough to heal it but it could be a start.

Or just watching the game from the press box might kick start something.

Depending on which side of the great Pettersson wars of 2024/25 you fall on the 4 nations tournament is tricky.

If he's hurt that's a decent time to sit to try to get better or try to find a way to better play through whatever it is.

If you don't think it's that, him going and playing for his SHL coach and with fellow countrymen, maybe he'll have a Pavol Demitra moment. Demitra wasn't playing great for the Canucks, went to the Olympics and tore it up for Slovakia, and came back a different player.

I will be mortified to see him play with such a debilitating injury

And he's gonna get blown by so badly with the overall speed strength and tenacity of teams that i can't see it doing anything for his confidence

Not only Pettersson, but Pettersson's line ghosted. No one had a shot on net.

Chytil is also too high event for Tocchet, imo. There will be a grace period, but after that, look for change in his game.

Demko, beauty. This guy was left for dead on here it seemed. Now? He could be the backbone of a sleeper team.

O'Conner, great wheels. Works hard. Glad he didn't go to EDM or VGK.

Joshua is back on pace. Doesn't look slow anymore. If Garland isn't too banged up, reunite the line.

Hoglander is going. Get him with Pettersson. He will drag EP forward.

Aman had a chippy game. May deserve another look, but I want to see Karlsson after back right after.
