So the color guy for NSH has used the term "twisted wrister" a couple of times now in describing a goal...just wondering how many posters here are old enough to get the reference. Even so, it was amusing the first time I heard it, and already old the second time. He needs some new material.

It's too late for him, Ron. It is his catch phrase now.

While this is true, it has more to do with the Kings not bringing their "A" game against Pathetic Division teams. The Pacific Division does suck. If it didn't the teams in the division would have better records against teams outside the division.

The Kings would not be sitting in first place right now if either the Ducks or the Sharks could win some games against the Eastern Conference and Central Division clubs.
Kings might not have this gap in the division but they would still have 44 points. Kings are 4th in the league, why would either the Ducks or Sharks be any better ?

You are awful negative lately.

I was pissed when we lost the lotto to Tampa (but I got over it in about 10 minutes), but thank goodness we ended up with Drew instead. Stamkos isn't the player Drew is, not even close. And as the years go by, the gap will only widen as goal scorers peak early and defensemen peak later. Doughty just gets better and better and his instincts and feel for the game are second to none.

Stamkos is as close to a one-trick pony as a superstar can be. Fantastic player? Absolutely. Go-to guy? Nope...not gonna be the one carrying/possessing the puck. It's not a coincidence his game started dipping when St. Louis did.

I think what he's referring to is the idea that the Kings are feasting on the division like the Canucks were on the old NW division. There's a mythology out there that the Kings are actually just as terrible as everyone else in the Pacific but we're just padding our stats vs. the Ducks etc.

Yeah, I get that Brad. A lot of people are making that mistake, thinking that the Kings are feasting on the Pacific Division opponents, but the real truth is that the Kings are playing well against every division in the NHL but the Pacific, and that the rest of the Pacific Division teams are craptastic against every other division in the NHL.

Not really negative, more just recognizing how badly Wilson and Murray have screwed up their teams. The Sharks and Ducks are not as good or as well balanced as they have been in the past. If either of those two teams had won some of their games outside the division they would be right there with the Kings right now.

People were bringing up the Pacific as being bad (true) as reason why the Kings are on top (not true).

The Kings are average vs the Pacific so they got their points from elswhere, something some dont understand or fail to recognize.

You said the Kings wouldnt lead the division if the Sharks and Ducks would be doing better ? No kidding...

Lets be honest, I have a feeling you didnt know the Kings were 4th league wise as well and only paid attention to the Pacific division because otherwise I cant really understand what you were saying. If the Kings were leading the Pacific but around spot 10-15 in the league, than your comment made sense. Not now.

Absolutely. He's a passenger personified who wants to be paid like he can lead a team somewhere.

I feel like I'm reading a scouting report on Phil Kessel. But yeah, I had an exact conversation with a friend about Stamkos and whether or not he'll get more than Kopitar. He doesn't do nearly as much as Kopitar, and we saw how true that statement is with his performance in the playoffs. Tyler Johnson had more of an impact in Tampa Bay's success last season.

You HAVE to trade Stamkos if you can't get a deal done. Retain a bunch of salary to get more. TB has a ton of talent that is going to get paid pretty soon. I don't see how he stays while they stay competitive down the road.

The craziest thing is Doughty and Stamkos were on pace for roughly the same points a few games ago. His game has fallen off a cliff.

Stamkos is the rare goal scoring center. Gretzky was obviously a goal scoring center, but he's also got more assists than others do points. Lemieux, same thing. He could score a goal with the best of them, but he's also got almost 400 more assists than he does goals. Stamkos is more like a Ovechkin or Hull, where they have more career goals than assists. Which I guess might be why Tampa felt they could move him to the wing in the playoffs, because he seems to be more of a goal scoring winger than he is a traditional centerman.

The Lightning definitely have some interesting choices to make in the coming months.

Was looking at the Canucks and where they ranked in the NHL.

Before Saturday's game:

Goals per: 22nd
Goals against: 23rd
PP: 22nd
PK: 22nd

I'll say this for them. At least they're consistent.

Barkov with two more goals tonight. The kid is coming on strong. Great talent.

I agree. Stamkos getting a huge AAV contract is going to set Tampa Bay back quite a bit. Hedman is the guy they have to build around, and they have a lot of depth of front to make up for the loss of Stamkos' scoring.

If Yzerman can get a good, young two-way centerman in return for Stamkos, he should seriously consider it.

When it comes to records the top five teams in the Central Division are right there with the Kings. I think Chicago is the only team to fear though. The Kings have the experience and grit to gut out a 7-game series against any of those other teams.
