It's tough to say, but there have been several top prospects in Columbus who were said to have a phenomenal work ethic that never demonstrated that. In particular, I remember it being said about Gilbert Brule and Derick Brassard.

Not tough at all. I've seen all three in camp, multiple times. No comparison.

Feels weird rooting for the Blackhawks, but since they're no longer in our division and Washington is... I'd say this game is critical.

Remember guys, if you have lots of tradition, you can get away with a 30 minute pre-game ceremony.

The same was said about Voracek, but I'd argue that him being a goofball was only regarded as a negative when the team wasn't successful; the only difference between "the guy who keeps everyone loose" and "guy who doesn't know how to dedicate himself" is based entirely on whether the team itself is performing.

I am a big Jake supporter, but I agree that the combination of guys/situation was just a bad mix. He's killing it in Philly. If we could get one guy back, I'd love it to be Jake. The style and temperament of this team combined with his skill and personality is a good mix. Let's send 'em Joey in trade! :)

Yes. It's impossible to tell the off-ice stuff obviously (was it him, the team, the players around him, nothing at all, etc.).

The calls of Jake being similar in style to Hossa and Jagr aren't far off. He has speed, great hands, and knows how to use his body to protect the puck.

Watching the Hawks-Caps game I recalled that Alexandre Picard is still playing somewhere. Bollig also played 40+ NHL games without recording a single point and now he scores 1st goal of the season for the Cup winners. On the power play. Some weird things already happens.

Lightning posters reporting Marty St. Louis named team captain. A well deserved honor. Hope the CBJ's Atkinson continues to aspire to reach Marty's level.

And with that announcement, the CBJ are now the only team in the NHL without a (formally named) team captain.

Jamal Myers: "The Jackets will make playoffs. Gaborik is gonna have a big year".
Melrose: "Columbus won't make playoffs. Gaborik couldn't produce in NY, he won't have a good season in Columbus".
We are good by all means. I don't know who allows Melrose to speak out loud on TV. He picked the Caps to win the Eastern Conference for god's sake!

Anyways I'd take an opinion of the guy who played against the Jackets last year over an opinion of the guy who's never saw them playing.

I just hope Gaborik "doesn't produce" here like he didn't in NY, I'll take two forty goal seasons in the next three years!

They keep talking about Columbus... And... Mention additions... Jack Skille... Are they talking about the Springfield Falcons? Probably.. Cause they haven't pronounced any sounds similar to Boo or Jenner...

A lot of empty seats at the Red Wings home opener.

That's just the way they roll in Detroit. They buy season tickets for the playoffs, not a Wednesday night in early October. It's been that way as long as I've been watching.

That's pretty typical for a non-hockey market. Wanna hear about a promotion they did 36 years ago that demonstrates that Detroit has never been a hockey market? I think Quebec is still looking for a team, since no one ever shuts up about it.

:sarcasm:

Watching the game on TSN ... he made some great saves and played very well for the better part of 40 minutes. The exception? A fluttering, half-fanned on shot by Dion Phaneuf that he barely stopped, exposing himself to a big rebound and an easy goal for Phil Kessel. Seriously ... he should have had that one.

Sound familiar?

Also familiar is the team in front of him always trying to make the pretty play instead of the right play. Too early to say Philly sucks, but they sure sucked tonight. Mason was somewhat of a bright spot, really.

mason almost allowed a mason goal in the third. A leaf was just dumping it in from outside the blue line and it bounced off of his stick and over his head. have fun with him Philly.

Mason is going to rebound very well for Philadelphia. He's a very good goalie if he commits, which he will.
