The obsession with former Soo players is bizarre and honestly, quite amateur. Especially given the fact that Dubas/Keefe's Soo teams won nothing and choked in early rounds multiple times.

It happens all over the league - we just don't make a big deal about it like we do here. Because it really isn't a big deal. He does his research on his acquisitions, and it just so happens that he's very well connected with former players & staff from the Soo.

He is biased

All this talk about the Soo, I found this old “Shift by shift” of Conor Timmins when he was paired with Sandin.

Kind of Boring, but I thought it was funny he’s going to be playing with him again.

SSM or no SSM connection, why bother trading for him if you're not going to play him? Was he already injured when acquired?

Wayne Simmonds
Jake Muzzin
Jared McCann
Nick Ritchie
Matt Murray
Jack Campbell
Michael Bunting
Rasmus Sandin
Connor Timmins
Robin Lehner (for salary retention purposes)

And since he hasnt put in retirement papers yet, the 11th is Joe Thornton.

Mac Hollowell could be the 11th if you dont think Lehner counts. Other Soo players Dubas acquired but didnt make the NHL are Ryan Sproul, Andrew Campbell, Tyler Gaudet, Jack Kopacka and the late Ray Emery.

Dubas also likes to acquire players he was an agent for or from the agency he worked at. We all know about Kyle Clifford but he was also Calle Jarnkrok's agent. Raze Sports bought Uptown Sports (the agency Dubas worked at) and since then here are the players Dubas as acquired from Raze Sports;

-Byron Froese
-Calvin Pickard
-Joe Blandisi
-Kyle Clifford (a 2nd time)
-Mike Giordano
-Sam Carrick
-Zach Hyman
So Matthews and all ex leafs should be eligible to be acquired or never given up. As time goes on those connections will be leaf connections.

They’re giving him some practice time with the team first, which is pretty normal. I think I read he’s expected to play next game

My question, to those who know, what has been his issue with not sticking on the NHL?

Injuries have plagued his career so far. He has dealt with concussion issues since his final junior season. He actually missed his entire ahl rookie season due to concussion symptoms. I believe he has issues with them again in his tenure with Colorado.

With Arizona last season, I believe he suffered a season ending knee injury after only a few games.

Taking all that into account, the injuries may have plagued him physically and even mentally on the ice. He may make poor decisions or think twice in a game thats sometimes too fast for that, because of those injuries.

With all that said, I remember him looking like a stud on team Canada and wanted us to find a way to pick him up. If his injures are behind him, maybe we can salvage his career 🤞

*Much later edit: I have never seen the hit that gave him his major concussion, but another poster told me he watched the game and it was a big hit from Logan Stanley that was Scott stevens on Lindross/ Brian Campbell on Umberger hit. But that he remarkably returned and finished the game.*

Thank you.
The concussions are a concern.
My only memories of him are from team Canada and I'm surprised he's struggled to get a foot hold in the NHL, but now it makes sense.
Hopefully or sport science department can figure out our for him.
As for the on ice decisions, what you said makes sense, but there is also the psychology of trust. If he trusts his GM to take his health first and put him in situations to succeed and he isn't worried that he will be used as a disposable cog, like the eichel Buffalo fiasco, maybe he will rerun to a confident play :crossfing

HA...enjoyed watching Sandin in the Timmons highlight pack more than Timmons. He was a dominant jr player out there for sure.

I honestly never thought I would see the day where Hollowell was needed to play.
Our $7.1 million D group is what it is but Mete has to be a better option than Hollowell regardless of which way he shoots.

Mete-Timmins bottom pair has to be better than Benn-Hollowell.
Give Jordie a break, no way he can play back to backs Friday-Saturday.

If the Leafs can go .500 on this road trip with the absolute bar none worst defense in the league and Kallgren playing 1 or 2 games I nominate Keefe for the Jack Adams.
Looks like we have the surefire Jack Adam's award winner as coach!

Douglas has 8 fighting majors in 80 games with the Marlies, 1 in rookie camp and has had multiple double roughing calls. That is pretty good.

Timmins has 42 hits in 51 NHL games.

Stats.

Timmins is also -10 in 6 games in the AHL and we want him in the NHL.
Stop using +/- as a stat to determine defense. It doesn't determine each players defensive responsibility in the defensive zone. Lots of defensive systems in hockey, Timmins may not have been responsible for any of those goals.
