Yeah but let’s not pretend Dubas if the first GM to lean towards similar places for players.

We have seen a lot of shuffling of similar players between the Oilers/Flames/Canucks.. some GMs deal better with certain agents so they sign players affiliated with them, and some GM’s draft from similar leagues/countries
That is a very good point.

This is a low key really good move but people will just see the Soo and trading away a big player and complain some more.

Douglas is less than useless. At least Marchment was somewhat useful in the AHL so it was reasonable he could useful down the line(I'm still surprised he's been as great as he's been though). Douglas should legit should be a 4th line ECHL player, but I'd rather not saddle the Newfoundland Growler fans with having to watch him play either. Waste of a contract spot.

Is Timmins going to solve all our problems? No, but we're short on healthy defenseman right now, he has a fair bit of pedigree and has been good when healthy. If he can fill in for a couple games and be better than Hollowell then it's already a win even if he gets injured or claimed off waivers down the line again. Outside chance he puts his injury issues behind him and can actually be a useful player beyond the next 2 weeks but it's a win without that.
Very fair comment

You didn't say you were wondering, you said you were almost certain and called the trade pathetic based on literally nothing. It's not my fault you chose to be ridiculous
Lmao coyotes fans are literally saying he aint physcial at all and doesn't finish his checks.

Stop with the excuses. This team is soft af. Bunch of pansies skating on ice thanks to Dubas and Co.

It goes in cycles....plus now the OHL watches recruitment, etc. much closer...those who know what I am talking about will understand this.

Maybe the Leafs need some Spitfires..... ;)
Nah we don't bribe our players under the table 😉

Note on the above WJC Dman scoring he tied with Adam Fox for 4th overall...AND he was far and away the plus/minus leader with plus 15 and was voted top 3 players on Canada's Gold Medal team!!!!
Then in the 2021 NHL Playoffs he played in EVERY single game of the Avalanches' 10 Playoff games! Clearly he has proven capable of playing at a high level. That summer he was the major piece sent to Arizona for Darcy Kuemper. He made the Coyotes roster for the start of the 2021-22 season but after playing 6 games sustained a season ending knee injury. He again made the Coyotes for this season but got injured during the 2nd game of the season vs. the Bruins Oc.t 15. He was assigned to Tucson AHL for conditioning purposes Nov. 8 and had 3 assists, 12 pims and minus 10 in 6 games. It's not uncommon for guys coming back from injury to struggle to get their timing back and be in "game shape".
Very high reward potential!

Seems like trading a nickel for a dime. We desperately need a big rh defender. Before his injuries, Timmins was a top level prospect. Worth a shot. If somehow he pans out and miraculously stays healthy, then our D looks to have a bright future.

some on the coyotes board aren't super happy about trading him, even with his injury history.

I am hoping he turns it around here and stays healthy. We do have a great medical staff and conditioning people so I am sure we can get him to utilize it to get things rolling.

Wouldn’t the Leafs need to put him on waivers in order to send him to the Marlies? Just like Arizona would have had to do in order to keep him in the AHL after his current conditioning stint down there?

I can see the Leafs not rushing into putting him into the lineup. Give him a bunch of practices with the team so he learns the systems and gets up to speed without potentially getting hurt. We have the cap space to keep him up right now with all our injuries, might as well take full advantage of it.

Half of his new teammates he played with 5 years ago under the same coach and GM. How difficult could it be to learn the same old system :sarcasm:

Timmins could be Makar and I will still question why Douglas? As I am sure there are other players that Yokes will be happy to take the other way.

Anyhow, beside injury, I thought Timmins is a talented RHD with size. Hope he lives up to his potential. Anyone knows if his injuries are recurring or just bad luck.

I'm pretty sure the knights develop way more legitimate nhl talent then the soo
The OHL is different. London knights are a bigger market team. They get more players that want to sign there because players dont want to report to smaller market teams in the middle of nowhere like Sudbury. They also seem to have a way of getting players to say they are committing to the college route and then getting these star players in later rounds like Patrick Kane.

The Soo has been a very solid producer of NHL talent over the years even though they are a smaller market team.

Connor Timmins
Robin Lehner (for salary retention purposes)

And since he hasnt put in retirement papers yet, the 11th is Joe Thornton.

Mac Hollowell could be the 11th if you dont think Lehner counts. Other Soo players Dubas acquired but didnt make the NHL are Ryan Sproul, Andrew Campbell, Tyler Gaudet, Jack Kopacka and the late Ray Emery.

Dubas also likes to acquire players he was an agent for or from the agency he worked at. We all know about Kyle Clifford but he was also Calle Jarnkrok's agent. Raze Sports bought Uptown Sports (the agency Dubas worked at) and since then here are the players Dubas as acquired from Raze Sports;

-Byron Froese
-Calvin Pickard
-Joe Blandisi
-Kyle Clifford (a 2nd time)
-Mike Giordano
-Sam Carrick
-Zach Hyman
Good post. Bad look for dubas

Conor Timmins reminds me a bit of when Pat Quinn would go for defensive reclamation projects once in a while on failed/disappointing top prospects on defense. Bryan McCabe was a home run, Aki Berg was serviceable, Ric Jackman was a stop gap in a pinch. If we can get something out of Timmins it'll be an astute pickup.

I have Morgan Frost and Barrett Hayton penciled in as a future Leaf reclamations.

I believe that the trade would of been a late/conditional draft pick had Simmonds been claimed. Once he cleared the Leafs sent a contract out and Douglas(Not 100% sure if his contract counts as one of the 50) only cost $80,000 on his two way deal so that fits best for a budget team

Had to keep with the other clubs....when in Rome do as the Romans. Windsor was certainly not the first team in the "O" to "recruit" certain players..
When London(Romans) has no ID and open tab for all players at the local clubs and MILF billets willing to make player super comfortable being away from home, other teams need to put all the options on the table

I used to be pretty connected in the junior hockey circle in the late 90s and early 2000s and let's just say there were a lot of cooked deals/rumours involving about 3, 4, maybe 5 teams, one of which has since relocated.

The obsession with former Soo players is bizarre and honestly, quite amateur. Especially given the fact that Dubas/Keefe's Soo teams won nothing and choked in early rounds multiple times.
