I think that this year, especially the playoffs, was awful to watch for everyone involved.

If we keep the core together you just have to hope people start to get it. Nylander is the oldest of our young guns and you could see it finally clicked with him. He knows what's needed to play playoff hockey. Take the points away and he still has the best playoffs of the trio. He was battling, going to the dirty areas, and throwing his weight around. Maybe next year it clicks for Marner as well? Matthews just needs to learn how to f***ing finish in big games and he'll be fine. I honestly wouldn't be too mad running it back if Matthews was signed longer and Mitch wasn't so overpaid, but alas you can't rewrite history.

Probably because you are in the middle of what you believe.

You want to believe that some way some how these 4 get it, but watching the individuals, style of play, intensity and answers while losing, you probably know they won’t.

It needs to start with a GM change. The identity massively shifted from Lou to Dubas and the bottom fell out.
Something in the middle is needed. That exact balance the core lacks as well.

Way too early for this question. If you trade Marner or Nylander you don't advertise it in the media after end of the season. You communicate with the media the way you should. Give honest feedback behind closed doors, have those internal discussion, then send your guys for vacation with training programs.

Then you discuss with other GMs about trades and stuff. You support your guys to the point they are not your guys. That also keeps their value as high as possible.

If we start the next season with this core, then we can ask this question and even then we don't know if there was any good trades on the table that we declined. Damn shame Pietro isn't available this summer, would have made sense now to trade Marner away and sign him as UFA.

The Habs got to the finals by a non-traditional manner, but results matter and they did very well. Marc Bergevin has historically made big moves as soon as he can when the team wasn't trending in the right direction.

Seems like they will continue as long as Kid Kyle is the GM. I suppose if a couple of the core decide to bolt in 3 years as UFA, it would have to stop then.
