If the Leafs had shown any sort of improvement in the playoffs over those 3-5 years we wouldn’t be calling for change.
Reality is they have actually performed worse the last few playoffs.

I wouldn't say we have preformed worse, its been the same loss each way,

Boston - Game 7 loss (down 3-1 in series I believe)
Boston - Game 7 loss (we were up 3-2 in series)
CBJ - Game 7 Loss (Game 5 I know..)
Montreal - Game 7 Loss (up 3-1 in series)

Just the difference is each year the expectation goes up higher and higher every year so it feels like we are doing worse.

As the price tag of our defective 4 goes up so do the expectations.
The Caufield kid just scored his 4 goal for the Habs in this series and 11 Fk’n million dollar Marner has one in 3 years

I figure Mitch shows up the year his contract expires. Hopefully dumbas will be long gone and forgotten.

There is zero wrong with the skill on this core, infact skill wise it's one of the best in the league.

Willpower and fortitude on the other hand are things that need to be beat into them until it sticks.

The team can probably balance itself if they get rid of playoff no shows like Marner and (to a lesser extent) Rielly.

Ending the Dubas / Keefe experiment would help as well.

Instead they'll do what this management team has done best, and wait too long to make changes. Rielly will walk for nothing, Shanahan, Dubas, and Keefe will all get fired, Marner will be an even bigger anchor, and Matthews will be one year closer to free agency.

Marner must go. Ideally to Buffalo for Eichel.

Removing yourself as a Leafs fan and putting yourself in Buffalo's shoes...

I would think in any trade involving Jack Eichel, Buffalo is probably hoping to draft or develop someone who could potentially be or at least be a worthy replacement for Jack Eichel.

Marner is a winger, an established player in the same age-range as Eichel is, but astonishingly more expensive a cap-hit than him...

It's probably not what they want to do

Marner is a winger.

Still think it will be a competitive bid. Eichel is an injury risk and he's the one demanding the trade. Plus big savings in terms of real dollars.

Agreed tho that he's not the big franchise center like Eichel, but under these circumstances it's a solid deal for Buffalo I think.

It's not even a slam dunk for the Leafs, just sick of Marner please get him out.

Marner, if you trust the current GM to make the correct valuation on the assets coming back (both in value-terms and holistically for what the Leafs' roster needs), would be a situation where you simply need to divest that amount of cap...

Trade an $11 million player and hopefully grab yourself someone in an $6-9M range salary who fits the roster's needs better than a scoring winger's does...

What about a defenceman? What about a goalie? What about both?

These are the options that have to be explored.

There's not many teams out there that can house a salary like that for a scoring winger.

Exactly, how does Marner for Eichel help Buffalo get better?

Their salary-cap gets worse in a one-for-one, they lose on the positional premium, so from there I guess they'd expect a truck-load of futures...

Sandin, Robertson, picks, etc...

A centre for a winger doesn't really make sense especially when you're tacking on salary.

On the Leafs side of things that pushes Tavares to wing I assume, so the net result is you just replaced one $11 million winger for another older one...

Title speaks for itself. Are you content with the team as is or would you like to see some changes?

Core meaning the big 4 forwards.

How do you know what they're doing? The Finals haven't even started yet ffs, but you know what they are doing moving forward?

Yes but i understand that out of the core only Nylander/Marner are options, with Nylander having an outstanding playoffs taking him off the table.

Which leaves Marner, who enables goal scoring from Matthews.

I'm not even sure making the 2nd round would keep Dubas job another year. We need a new GM to "break" this team apart when the time comes

Rielly isn't a trade option unless we're getting an equal or better replacement for his last year and his ntc. His cap hit is decent and expiring, if we trade him mid season it means we are in trouble. We will either re-sign him or let him walk

Marner needs to be run out of town with pitchforks. How can this pos demand an A on his sweater and then proceed to be completely invisible in the playoffs? Where is the leadership? Where is the accountability after the 5th straight first round loss? "Nope" is all we get when asked if he wants to improve as a player.

I don't give a shit how much he produces in the season. The guy is useless when the games matter and cares more about himself than the team. What an entitled prick.

Maybe Marner should just start throwing some cheap shots because playoff hockey basically encourages that stuff

No. A little (okay, a lot) frustrated but honestly I think there are way worse choices to be made than giving up on Mitch Marner. I can understand wanting to bet on that kind of talent figuring it out. It might not be the choice that I would have made, but I believe that it makes sense. I hope to hell that Dubas is right on this.

you cant teach courage and heart.
