These fancy stats including wins and losses in the playoffs are for spreadsheet nerds.
My eye test says the leafs win the cup next year.

So your saying in a bet the Leafs have a better shot at the cup than you winning a spousal cage fight? Asking for a friend.......

Hands down, put your money on her, all day, every day... she's small but freakishly strong and stubborn ... she weighs 105 lbs and helped me lift a 200 lbs TV shelf down stairs last x-mas. If I was lifting half the weight, she lifted 100lbs, who can lift a box equal to their body weight? That can't be normal

It's a mixture, and we've forgotten that and gone full blown data spreadsheet analysis on the team.

The team is capable of more than they have shown so far, so i get why we are running it back one last time. I do see changes coming but the core staying intact.

But this will without a doubt be the last we see the big 4 playing together if we are bounced in the first or second round.

Absolute FACT.

Isnt it tho?

Hedman/Stamkos needed a 2nd wave of elite impact talent (kucherov, vasy, point) and a 3rd wave of impact elc talent (cirelli sergachev cernak) before they won anything.

Took Ovy/Backstrom even longer.
How does Dubas pay for the next wave, isn’t he out of magic beans?

You guys seem quite upset that any poster would disagree with your answer to the question posed by this thread, and have all attacked me (personally, btw) for daring to answer the question differently.

Sounds monolithic to me!

So enjoy!
Funny you and others have been doing this for years, I see you throw it better than you catch it?

Not sure why some keep comparing to other teams and how long it took them to win.
Did they lose 5 first round playoffs in a row? Did they look like they were playing a pre-season game in the biggest games of the year? Did they stand up for eachother? Did they have abysmal powerplays? Did they allow some players to dictate their terms (when and where they'll play)

Who cares about Wash or TB?! f***ing Vegas has accomplished more in 4 years than we have in decades

It's irrelevant anyways. I don't improve myself my comparing myself to others, I improve myself by comparing me today to myself yesterday. Same goes for this team. Five straight years they ended up in the same place. Same shit, different season.

I voted YES. And the only one I would be okay being moved is Marner. I think you could get a decent return, and you keep your C depth. Imagine what this roster could look like with 10.9 million not being spent on fancy dancy dangles and pucks over the glass (yes I know he brings more than that... sometimes).

Personally I think they have been given enough time to win a round. We have seen lots of growth in the regular season, but that has not translated over. The org is using the coach firing and the covid situation to buy themselves more time I think.

I don't see that changing next year, in fact I think we will be tooth and nail to even make the playoffs. Hope I am wrong and they have a squad that can get the job done.

Given the narratives around these leafs, why would you think vegas would think theyd be overrated instead of underrated?
Vegas uses analytics and has since their reputation was established in the 50s on pro and college football. Fan narratives and angry forum posters are irrelevant to Vegas.

So if vegas still thinks high of them, that means....?
Vegas still thinks high of them.

Why would i lie.

You have alresdy noted that its unlikely the leafs will gain bettors based on emotion or homerism this year.

So why would a vegas line show a pro-toronto skew?
Vegas takes historical betting trends into account. So-called public teams (meaning popular) generally have shorter odds. The Leafs are one such team. And if early betting on a particular proposition comes in heavy on one side or the other, the line gets readjusted.

That the leafs will always be pne of the favorites as long as this core is together.
Or they won't. Only the future can reveal that.

Losses in playoffs/qualifiers with this core

1) 2017 - Caps - No one expected them to make the playoffs, overall good stuff
2) 2018 - Bruins - That hurt (elimination game 7)
3) 2019 - Bruins - That really hurts (elimination game 7)
4) 2020 - Columbus - Meh (elimination game 5)
5) 2021 - Habs - Embarrassing (elimination game 7)

The clear trend is this "core" cannot get it done in elimination games. They don't show up when it matters the most!

So now that they have been totally embarrassed by the Habs, I hope this core has been humbled and realize they are losers. If they accept this and approach the next playoffs with a different mentality (have that killer instinct) then maybe its ok to keep the core together.

Otherwise, looking forward to another game 7 loss in 2022 :)

Inevitability isn’t a convincing team building strategy either.

How do we know the Leafs aren’t Thornton/Marleau? God knows how much we learned from the tutelage from those two.

That's true, the current core could very much end up like the San Jose's / Anaheim's/ Nasvhiles / Vancouvers. Multiple playoffs appearances and no cups to show for it.

Nothing in sports is for sure, there is no exact blueprint in becoming a winner. You build your team to make it to the playoffs year in and year out and hope it comes together in the playoffs -- That's what the front office has done with the current core.

I have no issues with the "haters" and people that disagree with when it comes to the core and front office and how the team is built. It's when they spew nonsense and bullshit and certain things like "Dubas won't trade any draft pick that he won the calder cup with" Etc.. At least have a logical response and reasoning to why the core is flawed etc.
