5th last. What would you expect Nonnis to say? "This team sucks!":naughty:

PIT was still 2nd last after drafting Malkin(2nd), Crosby(1st), Fleury(1st), and Whitney(5th) in consecutive years so don't hand me that crap.

Did that team suck, or had the pieces not arrived yet?

WAS, CHI, EDM, there are several team that finish at the bottom of the league who have talent.

Get real man.

Nonis has even said the team is in way better shape than it was 4 years ago.

Then Nonis is Burke Lite, and just as confused and delusional. Four years on, Brian and Dave's Leafs teams are worse than what they inherited from JFJ. Fact. And every media and hockey pundit gives the Leafs no playoff chance - except Super Dave.

It looks like we have Nonis kool-aid drinkers on board and Burkie's hockey body isn't even cold yet.

There are many players I would trade Kessel for.

Including Reilly.Kessel may be a star but he isn't what this team needs to win a cup. Many say he isn't a playoff performer.I say we need a star center more than a star winger.Although it remains to be seen,I think Kessel would underperform in the much tougher playoffs. As such, I trade him at a high for a guy like Reilly. And a trade I would surely do:Kessel and Grabo for Reilly and Statsny.

Kessel better be gone by next summer. Can't stand that bum.

Anyone who says they'd rather have Kessel than Seguin needs to give their head a shake.

How can Nonnis, who helped build the team, say "This is bad team."? Why not get a quote from someone with no bias.

Kessel is PPG in the 15 playoff games he has played so far.

Yup, he sucks in the playoffs.

The fact that you would trade Kessel (7th in league points) for a guy who had 55 points (Only 8 points more then TYLER BOZAK) is laughable

Yeah, Kessel is a complete bum, why the hell would we want a top 10 scorer on our team?

I used that as a for instance trade I would do.I am not the only one who thinks Kessel is the wrong piece for us right now,or that he may underperform in the playoffs.Enjoy your bag Senor.

you have no basis for making that assumption when kessel is ppg in his 15 playoff games in boston.

Like who?

You? DaveT83? Disgruntled O? Bomber? One of the other ones doing backflips because Burke got fired? Reall unbiased oppinions.

Where there once was Kaberle, there now is Gardiner.

Where there once was Blake there now is KEssel.

Where there once was Hagman there now is LUpul.

Where there once was Stempniak there now is JVR.

Where there once was an empty cupboardin the minors there now is several former 1st round picks.

If you can't see this team is better off now than it was 4 years ago then too bad for you I guess.

Kessels current playoff record:

GP: 16
Points: 16

And this was a few years back.. he's an even better player now putting up more points.

You have no reasons for your posts aside from its more ammunition for you to criticize Burke.

The real question is this.

If someone offered you a true number one center for Kessel, would you do it? Many of my points were not definitive. I said I am not the only one who thinks Kessel may underperform.Would you trade him for a number one center? Kessel and Grabo played in a run and gun system.I have no problem trading Grabo for Statsny, why not look at career points then?Is Kessel a better overall player than Reilly will be?

No its addition by subtraction.

You get a number one center but now you lose your all star top 10 in NHL points winger to play with him.

It makes no sense.

Not that I can say I've seen a lot of O'Reilly, but professional sports is more about just stats you know? like intangibles maybe?

Has Michael Vick ever won anything? Even in his prime? No. What about a guy like Vince Carter?

Just because your stats say you're good, it doesn't tell the whole story. This just in, you don't build a team around Phil Kessel.

straight up, yes, but that wouldn't happen.

it would also be a good centre, not someone like Joe Thornton, or another veteran centre. A young guy like when we did the Sundin trade.

Trade 1 hole for another doesn't get you anywhere. There are FA options in Getzlaf/Zajac. You can't make any decision until you attempt to sign these guys since they cost nothing but money. I'd rather tank this short season and for once have our own homegrown #1 center like almost every other team. If we sign getzlaf it will give our prospect time to develop on the second line.

Titles? Why not?

You are right it won't happen straight up for a number one center. But Kessel,Bozak or Kessel/Grabo or even Kessel/Kadri might get it done and I feel strongly we need a number one center. I disagree, JVR ? Lupul could be a number one line depending on the center.

Of course I didn't like Burke,is it that obvious?

I say that we should tank this short season and hope that we get getzlaf & perry. If we don't get them then we should do a full rebuild. But either way we have to tank this short season to get that #1 center we've been looking for. We are not the far off from a good team. We have the prospects, we are just missing them up front. Imagine this line up:

JVR - Getzlaf - Perry
Lupul - Mackinnon - Kessel
Kulemin - Kadri - Frattin
Ross - Mcclemment - Brown

Phaneuf - Reilly
Gardiner - Gunnarsson/Blacker
finn - Percy

Buyout Grabovski and Komisarek. Let Conolly, lombardi, macarthur leave via FA/trade.

All we need is at minimum an average goalie.

If we can't get percy and getzlaf then this is all for not and we should tank the following year to round out our top 6 with mackinnon and whoever gets drafted in 2014.

I'm liking the enthusiasm, but let's not get crazy.
