MacKinnon and McDavid would be some nice pieces to build a franchise around.

The sad thing is these two kids will probably be better than any player we currently have on our team.

Kessel doesn't get enough respect around here.

How are we 5 pieces away? We need a #1 C and a goalie. What else?

Maybe not 5, but at very least 3. I believe the system that Carlyle will implement will relieve some pressure on goaltending. So in that spirit, we don't need that #1 guy. Just someone who's stable, and can win games by himself on occasion. Then there's a #1 Center, and another top2 D to compliment Dion. We have enough talent in the organization to fill the "support/role player" roles as well as scoring depth.

I am laughing out loud at anyone posting drafting MacKinnon as the solution for 1C...

No one ever seems to get it... draft picks are futures. They take years to develop.

MacKinnon isn't going to be on anyones roster next year. He'll be in junior. The only way he gets onto a roster is if Tambellini scoops him up, because the dude has no clue how to grow prospects. Hall and the Nuge will both have short careers thanks to Tambs having no idea that putting kids up against men leads to injured kids.

You don't know your prospects if you think he isn't going to get a good chance to play. I'm not saying he'll jump into our 1st line center. I would like it if he became our second/third line center for the first year, preferrably 2nd line since he'd get more opportunities there.

Kessel's a bum

MacKinnon might not be the answer...

But like it or not we are years away.Look at the rest of the East. Relative to the pack we are behind, not catching up.Do you really think this team will beat Boston as Seguin,Lucic,Rask/Subban and Hamilton start to mature? We are trying to take advantage of a freak year to sneak in at the cost of the future. Kessel may just walk away, especially if Bozak is traded. Phaneuff isn't a number one,yet alone a good choice for captain.

Look at things in context,go look at the other teams ,project into the future and ask youself, who will we be better than in 3 years? Not many if Kessel walks. If Luongo was such a saviour, why doesn't everyone want him? He is a playoff stop gap and once Bozak is gone we will have the weakest centers in the East.

They've been rebuilding all along. It's just a select few that are too impatient to realize it.

5 pieces? lmao What 5 pieces?

we're a #1 G and a #1 C from being a big competitor.

one of those is available right now.

we have two top defenders in Rielly and Phaneuf, and another arguable one in Gardiner.

 I stopped reading there.

Yes Burke has infused lots of young talent to which I give him credit. The Marlies have been improved 10 fold since his arrival. However, how much of that talent is elite? Very excited with the prospects in our system, but I don't see any of them helping the leafs get to the promised land.

Whether they will help or not remains to be seen. That's where the patience part comes in.

...who is a current allstar defenseman.

Phaneuf has never made an All Star team, unless you're talking about the annual exhibition game that he's 5 years removed from, which means nothing. Komisarek is an "all star" if that's a metric.

And I'm fine with that. Just stop trading away draft picks and signing mediocre veterans to bump us out of the bottom 5. Tired of this nonsense.

How? Rielly is projected to be a #1 D-man and has shown tonnes of skill already.

Phaneuf has already proven himself to be a very capable #2 top pairing d-man, just wait til you see him in an actual defensive system.

Gardiner is a fantastic #3 guy.

so by simple math, you have two top defenders right there, with a 3rd very skilled top 4 guy.

That is true.

Breaking it down,Gardiner,Reilly will likely have impact. Other than Finn, the rest are depth players at best.We must compare what we have to present teams in the east not past leaf teams. For four years of failure,he hasn't done that well, barely keeping up with the pack.A glaring hole remains at center and goal, while his key acquisition is poised to walk away for nothing after next year as division rivals begin to reap benefits from Seguin and Hamilton.Failure.He was over rated all along.

top 2 to compliment dion? Did Rielly quit from the organization?

#1 center is clear, but the #1 G is far more critical right now. We don't have a #1 Goalie as far as I'm concerned, unless Reimer/Scrivens really prove me wrong. Not impressed by either, regardless of Wilson's system.

I don't think it's crazy to suggest we need 3 or 4 more really good players, including in the two most important positions in the game.

Are Leaf fans open to tanking or is it playoffs at any cost? I am trying to gauge mood now that Burke's efforts have flopped on his face. Why 2 years or less? We could ride Reimer and if we are out of it by trade deadline trade Kessel,Grabo.,Lupul,Phaneuff,Liles etc. and then draft our number one center.

Nevermind me explaining 46 years to you and no, I don't like losing, but I know you aren't aware,we have been anyway, with nothing to show for it but Reilly. If Burke had just bit the bullet we would have Seguin plus Hamilton or Courtier(sp?) right now and would be only searching for one or two players.

I want to know how Leaf fans feel, are we ready to suck it up for the future,or just be mediocre?
A portion of Leaf fans think they're ready to tank, but they aren't. They will always want the guy we didn't draft, the guy we didn't sign will always be better and the guys we do draft will always be busts when they don't win MVP in their first season.
