Are Leaf fans prepared to do a proper rebuild?

Sure...

Trade 1 hole for another doesn't get you anywhere. There are FA options in Getzlaf/Zajac. You can't make any decision until you attempt to sign these guys since they cost nothing but money. I'd rather tank this short season and for once have our own homegrown #1 center like almost every other team. If we sign getzlaf it will give our prospect time to develop on the second line.

But do you gamble we even get a whiff of those 2? What if they aren't into coming here?

Burkites have hitched their wagons to the Phil Kessel train.

Unwavering support for Brian Burke - is now Unwaivering support for Phil Kessel.

In time the Kessel mistake will also be undone in the same fashion that Burke was.

To Do:

Dump Useless Vets for picks/prospects/cap space (Lombo/Connolly/Komi/Stekel/MacA)
Run with the Kids - allowing for valuable on the job training within a low stress environment
Sell High (Lupul) Buy Low at Deadline
Draft a Stud 1C in upcoming Draft
Trade Phil Kessel = Power Forward + Elite Goalie Prospect. (should be relatively close to making impact at NHL level)
Target Quality UFA's to surround your Young/Emerging Nucleus

If someone offered you a true number one center for Kessel, would you do it?
Who is the center?

Give me a list.

Many of my points were not definitive. I said I am not the only one who thinks Kessel may underperform.Would you trade him for a number one center? Kessel and Grabo played in a run and gun system.I have no problem trading Grabo for Statsny, why not look at career points then?Is Kessel a better overall player than Reilly will be?

Not that I can say I've seen a lot of O'Reilly, but professional sports is more about just stats you know? like intangibles maybe?

Has Michael Vick ever won anything? Even in his prime? No. What about a guy like Vince Carter?

Just because your stats say you're good, it doesn't tell the whole story. This just in, you don't build a team around Phil Kessel.

Do you even know what that word intangibles mean? Further more you don't build a team around one player. This analogy " There is no I in team" means a lot more than what the popular belief is;)

Individuals don't win championships TEAMS DO even if you have Crosby on your team he is just 1 piece of the puzzle not the whole damn team that makes you a winning team.

I used to feel the need to correct people every time I saw someone display a post of ignorance, but who wants to waste their time doing that? One of the best things a person can do is just accept the fact that there are always going to be less knowledgable people out there.

For example, someone posed the question, "would you rather have a #1C or a first-line winger (like Kessel)?" A poster above me answered by saying something like 'you'd be filling one hole by creating another, which doesn't get you anywhere.' That is some simple "logic."

Just won't stop will it?

Nonis has been basically doing most of the work the last 3 years anyway so enjoy your hollow, and rather distasteful, celebration.

Sounds so easy when you put it that way.
I wonder why the front office didn't think of that before?

Your arguments are so powerful.

Here is a trade I would do.Kessel and Grabo for Reilly and Statsny.Laugh all you want.I am not the only one who would do it and thinks we are weak at center, a far more important position to win a cup and be competitive. Kessel scored last year(5th in scoring?) and we finished 5th last. The joke is on you, just how much better do you expect him to play? In Carlyle's defensive system,he may not fare so well.

It isn't hollow,Burke was fired and the team sucked for 4 years for the first time ever being booed relentlessly.5th last.I don't see your argument.

If we are going to tank a year it might as well be this short one! I would not be upset by bottoming out like the Oilers if it means that we could win a cup at some point in my lifetime.

Sadly it will never happen though, we will likely be a middle of the pack team for just about ever.

Even if your argument is 100% correct :)sarcasm:), your trade fails to solve the problems you raise and makes our team worse.

HOw can you have a darryl sittler user name and not remember this team being boo'd until the last 4 years?

Just makes no sense. :shakehead

There's no rush to dump kessel right now. If we don't get getzlaf and perry/zajac then we can start thinking about starting a new rebuild. Imagine if we do get both of them and then add luongo if you wish. We'd be contenders for many years. If we fail to grab them then I do think we should offer kessel around to see what we get. You don't start a rebuild when there is a chance that you can save yourself the 5 years of rebuilding.

But it is a gamble, free agents dont come here unless they suck and are overpaid.

"I want to make Toronto the destination of choice for free agents" that suck.

"Truculence, testosterone and beligerence." So many of his promises accomplished.Boy, he sure had some you fooled.

Burke speak retool = refool.Too bad the ownership wasn't buying it.

And my favorite "Building from the net out."

"This kid will be a star in this league!"

Anymore good ones?

I agree. Stay away from Luongo. PLay the kids and just see what happens. Chances are this team will still be bottom 10. Then trade up at the draft to get our future #1.

One more bad year then we are on our way up.

If theres one thing that should be abundantly clear about Burke's tenure here in Toronto its that he did not listen to anyone. He did not accept anyone's advice. Hell even Richard Peddie is on record as saying that he did not agree with the Kessel trade - Burke had full autonomy and ownership did not want to meddle in his affairs.

I'm sure Nonis made many a reccomendation to Burke that simply fell on deaf ears.

Burke was in charge. Simple.

I do feel we need at least one more year.

Trading all our top players will not helpl you in getting them. That's why I'm saying we should wait and see what happens until FA. You trade kessel, phaneuf and whoever else you want to trade and you'll have no reason for FA's to come here. There is no reason to dump our players now cause we know we suck already. Keep them until the summer and hope to sign perry&getzlaf and you've got yourself a team. Add mackinnon, jones, barkov to that this year and we have a good team. I'
m done here with you.

Really and yet I read Nonis was the behind both the Lupul and Phaneuf deals.

Be happy Burke is gone but realise you now got the guy who has actually been doing all the things you hated Burke for.

I don't know how to set up a poll but I am curious. Now that we have seen how horrible Burke's improper shortcut,I dont have a plan works. Are Leaf fans prepared to rebuild properly or are we looking to make the playoffs right away and of course lose? If one looks openly at the rest of the east,we have no chance now or even with Luongo. Will we now repeat the mistakes of the last 46 years or do a proper rebuild which might take 2 years or even less? Thoughts?

Such a stupid concept that Leafs fans aren't ready for a rebuild when the last playoff action was 9 years ago and the building is still full...

Canuck fans on the trade board want to do Kassian+Schneider+1st for Kessel

I have been ready since the last lockout.

We just have to keep our draft picks and not trade for Luongo.
