We should be even more concerned than ever after his play throughout the series. He was so bad in the dzone and couldn't connect an easy pass last night.
4 goals, 7 points in 6 games, including the 2nd most points 5v5, and the series-clinching goal that ended a 19 year drought. 52.1 xGF% at 5v5... Almost 58% on faceoffs...
Yeah, so concerned. :eyeroll:

This post is bad and you should feel bad.
Somehow I don't, I don't mind him playing here. He is just not the captain material for me, it should've been Matthews or Rielly who were drafted and developed by us and were younger. He was the difference maker last night but won't be my choice for being the face of the franchise. He was playing worse than a bunch of plugs game 3 onwards he only contributed once in the winning games.

Everytime he was in our zone we were being hammered down heavily by the Lightning.

Johnny T is slowing down in an era where the game is getting faster and faster. No doubt. He’s also a consummate professional, intelligent and effective player. He may not be the game breaker some desire, but he’s a damned good player for this club.

A number of threads being appropriately bumped today. So many good posts too, I'm just laughing my ass off!

I have a feeling his childhood pj's would fit you well.

5 years into a 7 year deal and he's slowed down less than I would have expected by now. The man's a gud pro! :)

Did you even watch game 5? And Rielly's tying goal in game 4 doesn't go in without the JT screen.

I mean, I clearly said it because I didn't like what I saw from series 1. I also knew that a few dogs would come bark at me for making a bold statement. Only if those poor folks also had eyes.

As long as he's ready for round 2 I don't have a problem.

When he's producing he's part of the solution.

At his price point that should be all the time.

It’s wild that JT scored the biggest Leaf goal in 20 years last Saturday, not even a week has past and we’re back to “ughh.” with his level of play.

It wasn't a skilled goal, it was a fluke even Kerfoot had a better OT goal than him.

I love him for scoring it and changing the story. But I just find you get such a poor level of 5 on 5 play, puck control and flow with JT that it’s easy to just get frustrated again. It’s been 6 days!

I just wish he'd keep it simple. Go to the front of the net, work on the cycle down low, use that big body below the hashmarks and let your wingers carry the puck. Especially if Keefe insists on pairing him with Nylander, who needs the puck on his stick.

It was always the same. Look at my quote, I already said before the series even started that we should now be concerned more than ever. His play screamed nothing at me. He was a non factor all series long except for the OT winner in game 6. In fact he was the reason why we lost 2 games in the first place. His line got hammered in the zone in series 1 and now gets hammered in the series 2.

If you put him with Marner everyone will love him again. JT at this age needs an elite playmaker who’s defensively responsible. Unfortunately Matthews has been slumping(by his standards) and needs the Marner pairing as well.
