After all the posts, dumping on Tavares, Marner and Nylander over the last few years… never thought it would be Auston’s turn next.
I just want to know if he’s injured or not.

He’s not playing to his ability

Im not dumping on him.

Same

It's gone on way too long, if he's hurt sit him out, it's not hard to figure out, if he's distracted about something off ice, give him time off to get whatever the problem is straightened out and get his head right.

If it was about Marner playing with Tavares, then it's a level of immaturity and entitlement I don't want around the team. That shit spreads like the flu.

I remember the Leafs having to deal with some crap like that in the past. They didnt do enough about it and let that crap fester. It created an atmosphere of disunity, a disgruntled dressing room and turned the team into losers and cost a coach his job.

My money is on sense of entitlement

Why do we care about price?
That should be pretty obvious

Also uh, the blocking that thang (most Block by forwards) and defensive game tells one thing too: the coach and matty 34 have talked before the season and he is playing a "defensive" season. Concentrating on defense more this time. Making him a a better player that way. This time. So if the nose is not injured, its his play cause of the defensive orientation this season.

He can have a a monster year but the comparison to Mcdavid should be dead.

There is no comparison and the fans who tried to argue they are similar tier players based off of one season from matthews were crazy

Totally agree. But no one is making this case this year. McDavid is on a different planet and Matthews is no where close nor is anyone else.

Reading Coiler HF they seem to want to die on this hill claiming Leafs media is saying it’s 1a 1b with McDavid and Matthews.

I mean where do these Oiler fans get this crap from? It’s just to rile up the degenerates in their forum. Anything negative against the Leafs even made up will fill up page upon page on that steaming pile of crap forum.

Dubas needs to talk with Matthews and either get him to re-sign on a team friendly deal, or find out what teams he would be willing to sign an extension with and get the ball rolling on a trade.

It’s clearly an injury that requires offseason surgery, sitting him out doesn’t fix anything.

I genuinely don’t understand how sane adult humans keep trying to push the idea that he’s so entitled he refuses to take wrist shots that get him paid multimillions on his next contract, and instead to stick it to Keefe over the Marner issue he goes out and blocks a bunch of shots instead of floating defensively and stat padding on the PP.

Bad effort, low engagement, any of that I could understand blaming on attitude or off-ice stuff. The inability to handle the puck or shoot a shot he scored 100s of goals with is not attitude related.

I think so too. He is not close to who he was last year. I just hope he can dig deep and be able to perform in the playoffs.

Entitlement a la MUSKOKA 5....hmmm...you might have something there. The coach & GM's coddling dosen't help either. If we don't go far in the playoffs I can see this core being disbanded by new Mgmt who made no promises to these guys.

You could possibly make a case for Draisatl as well, no diss man it puts him in the current top 8 for sure

Pretty much every fanbase on HFBoards, including this one, has posters who claim all sorts of crap about the media which simply isn't true. I think some fans only hear what they want to hear.

I'm not sure that “sane adult humans” is a safe assumption to make about HFBoards posters. :)

That is my issue with Matthews, his skating effort is poor. Other factors play into this too, like how active the players stick is. He simply does not skate hard too often. The shot blocking is a main focus of the media and commentators but Matthews isnt paid 11.6 to block shots. I am 99.9% he will have surgury in the offseason, I believe it is his right hand. A smart coach like Cooper and the best goalie in the world could potentially leave Matthews having an extremely poor playoff.
