Matthews will ask for 13.5 or 14. The negatives around his game are serious in my eyes. He doesnt seem to care as often as he should, he can be intimidated by Konency, Charot, etc. Tampa will try and goon him in the first round and we will see if he shuts his game down and floats. His compete level, isnt worthy of a captaincy but his skills are. Marner is worthy of a captaincy, compete level and talent. Matthews too often has no passion, determination to his game...I am fine trading him in the summer but Dubas will get fleeced in the deal.
That was the AM special. Hope he finds his mojo back.
Would be nice if he could hit 41, though 12 in 18 would be a heater as far as this year's concerned. 41 because it would be 300 in his career. But also the 40 mark I think is an important mark. Even in a down year, 40 is still a respectable total, and you could consider 40 when he is at his worst/lowest. Less than that and it's really off of not only last year's torrid pace. but in his career overall. In the years where he scored in the 30s due to injury, he was still at a 45 goal pace early in his career. This could be his worst pace of his career.
Matthews needs to alleviate his game to the next level and the way he has played this season is not going to take us very far. I believe he is going to show up in the playoffs
Sorry it was a typoElevate* , we definitely do not want him alleviating any part of his game.
I think our big 3 is going to show up. They have to, it’s the only way we make it through.
I’d say third best actually, Marner and Nylander are both ahead of him.At worst, Matthews has been our 2nd best player this season after Marner.
If he wants to continue earning that sweet endorsement money he better realize it better to take a little less and build a winner in Toronto.Well now I am worried.

The issue I have is AM getting paid like he is the second best player on the planet when he got his last contract and that has never been the case. Toronto media, fans and management need to start playing hardball with these players. He has never got us past the first round of the playoffs, he has never lead the league in points, and for his career has averaged just around 1.1 PPG. Look he is an amazing player and I am glad he is a TML but if his contract demands are more than 13 million this offseason you trade him and hope McDavid has a picture of himself in Blue and White PJs as a kid and he pulls a JT.
Looks like he was shooting it hard when he took out ROR. LolI think he was shooting the puck hard last night, unless he is taking some kind of pain or freezing treatment his hand strength looked recovered.
You find that funny? I thought you were a fan.Looks like he was shooting it hard when he took out ROR. Lol
Not sure he has another level bud.Matthews needs to elevate his game to the next level and the way he has played this season is not going to take us very far. I believe he is going to show up in the playoffs
Especially if they crap out in the 1st round again. The Leafs are traded him in June if he asks for 15 million.
Well now I am worried.
Matthews is going to get a HUGE payday on his next contract, but I don’t think it should be with the Leafs. The return we could get for him would be massive, and I think it would be more beneficial for the Leafs, then re-signing him.
