Rangers sign him I think especially if they are moving on from Strome...But they will have other options at center like Trochek at center....But Getting Copp and Vitrano were two good moves by Rags and they get to try Copp out to see if he is an option going forward.

I wouldn't sign Copp and toss him in the #2c role without experimenting with that first. He's a good winger who can take some of the defensive responsibilities and faceoffs, but the center role is different and I would want to see it before going in that direction.
Panarin basically takes all the rolls of the center that Copp doesn’t do so it’s fine.

Rangers will most likely re-sign him and move on from Strome. Panarin has got a new best friend. Lol

He is a year younger than Strome and think he brings more than him, it’s a no brainer at this point.
yes, but Strome $ can not be applied to Copp
All of Strome, Geo, Nemeth, + Hajek + recovery of Hank buyout $ = 11m ish needed just for Fox, Zib increases

Unless Trouba agrees to go early, for which I am not holding my breath, we will not be able to add Copp + Vatrano to the guys we have to renew, even getting picks for Lindgren, and jettisoning his 3m per, unless they each take less for a yr or 2.

Critics like to talk shit, but math does not lie.
They WILL do it my way, or they will not keep everybody critical they want to retain,

In case you havent been watching, Copp has been pretty damn critical.

Sabres fan here, I’d be willing to pay in the $6.5M range long term.

1) Okposo ($6M AAV) has one more year remaining.

2) Buffalo will need to spend money to reach the cap floor.

3) we have a lot of young players coming up the ranks and on the roster (Thompson, Cozens, Krebs, Asplund, Mittelstadt, even guys like Tuch and Olofsson, with Quinn & Peterka likely fighting for time). Having a guy like Copp, who can play center if Thompson or Cozens are struggling, play left wing if Skinner is in a slump, or on the right side if Tuch is injured… is exactly what this team needs. A guy who can fit on lines 1-4 and play a solid game is invaluable. Especially on a younger squad trying to find themselves that will definitely have players go through slumps and the like.

4) he has some decent playoff experience and doesn’t seem like a locker room issue. The vibe in Buffalo right now is very positive and he’d be a nice addition to the room as well.

His play in New York means somebody will overpay for him to be a 2C.

I'm guessing 6x6.5M at this point but wouldn't even be surprised if he got 7M either.
Supposedly, Winnipeg offered him 4 mil per year and he refused because he wanted 5. He isn't getting 6.5-7 mil off of 15 games with the Rangers. They aren't going to ignore everything else he has done in his career.

Are you actually serious with this?
you are responding to "5 years / 3.5 AAV discount because he loves Panarin and Trouba"

He won't go there, b'c term too long.
Howev, if it is no ? clear NY WILL have cap $$$ available after AT MOST 2 yrs, I could see him and Vatrano each being patient and taking around 2.5 or so, ONLY FOR 2 YRS MAX after which they split most of Trouba's 8m per.

5X5. He’ll want to stay with the Rangers to play with Panarin, and won’t ask for anything excessive.
All $$ is one thing.
All other than $$ is something else.
The other mathematical possibility is little $$ now for larger $$$ later and other intangibles, ie good compete situation, pleasant work environment, and signif post career options

Rangers can afford to lose Lindgren's 3 per x2 and we get the 1m cap bump.
But we do not have too much else we can move/need to keep.

Trick is to extend youth, add Copp AND Vatrano
