i could see that and wings will be adding to their team via free agency next year
There's rumbling that Yzerman plans on going big this summer, Possibly both on the trade and free agency front. He really wants this team to be a playoff contender sooner rather then later. He's looking at a 2C and top 4 LD between trades and or free agent signing.

Would love him as the 3C here in NJ.

What is he likely to command as a UFA?
All depends on what he wants.
If he wants top $$$ immediately, NY will be too cap constrained to match highest possible #s.
If he is looking for best possible long term compensation, he takes 2ishm for 2 yrs by which time most of Trouba's 8m per is off the books replaced by younger cheaper talent. Shortly after that, Panarin's 11m is done and he won't get reupped at anywhere near that if at all. Continuing financially, no sweat for NY to offer high end golden parachute --- scratch my back now, when you hang up the skates, get cushy consult job, etc.
Then on top of paid $$, setting aside advertising opportunities are prob best when you are connected to Madison Ave., there are other considerations, like comfort in teammates and also shot at SC.
If NY is smart and listens to bern and deals vets not youth, then can afford to max extend their window --- which is a legit factor for a Copp/Vatrano taking less now and commit to long term.

Copp isn't coming back....

He's playing himself to a nice 7x7.
NYR can't afford him unfortunately.

Again, if short term $$ maxed is all he wants, then yes.
If other variables, very possibly no.
Only prob w/nyr paying him is immediate cap space. I have identified how quickly we can move major pieces. Did not mention also but immediately Lindgren gone his 3m x 2 for picks = no cap hit replaced by cheap elc. Prob is they have to add Copp + Vatrano on top of other guys. But if everybody holds briefly, we don't have to break up the band

Copper is getting a big raise, which is partly why the Jets traded him, he was a cap casualty. Love him as a player, but he's about to get paid.

Copp is breaking out career numbers right before he is due for a raise. Only a moron would take the short term deal here. He's looking for max term, like 99.9% of professional athletes. He's playing so well that he's easily going to get 5-7 million on a 6-7 year contract. The 2 year deal isn't going to pay him what he's potentially giving up on the back end. These guys are one bad fall from their careers being over and you think he wants a short term deal after putting up the best numbers of his life? LOL

NYR have track record of taking care of its own.
6-7 figure job for 20-30 yrs after he retires w/minimal and flexible demands on his personal time is a consideration you should not dismiss so quick on his behalf

He's not taking 2 million / 2 years, a pay cut from his current contract. Put the pipe down. Your solution to every contract is offering them a post-career organization job.

Notice how none of these players you suggest take short term big dollars are doing it? I wonder why.

Rangers will most likely re-sign him and move on from Strome. Panarin has got a new best friend. Lol

He is a year younger than Strome and think he brings more than him, it’s a no brainer at this point.

Can you please stop clogging the thread with this sort of dumb crap?

He is going to get at least 5 years and 5 million.I see something like 5x5.5 as being very team friendly. lol@ thinking he will take 2 x 2

Imagine turning down millions playing hockey so you can retire early and make 100K working in accounting

Bye Bye Mudasir I mean Strome , hello Salman I mean Copp

I was ecstatic when they got Copp. I am all good with him in the Top 6 over Laf and Kakko. Those guys show flashes but are not ready yet, imo.

Next year can run a 2nd line of Panarin - Copp - Kakko. Can call it the Panko Copko Line

I wouldn't sign Copp and toss him in the #2c role without experimenting with that first. He's a good winger who can take some of the defensive responsibilities and faceoffs, but the center role is different and I would want to see it before going in that direction.
