Detroit 6-7 yr @ $5,500,000 both Marek and Friedman are linking him to hometown Detroit.

If that’s it then sign him. He’ll produce well 3-4 of those years then be a 3rd line guy the next 3 years.

He’s got enough left in the tank to not go full Frans Nielsen.

If Copp is your 2C your team is in trouble.....

I understand that comment partly, but I don’t 100% agree.

Danault a bad 2C?
I’m not directly comparing Danault and Copp (similar point production this year, Danault is still better defensively), but the point is both a are lower scoring two way centres. The goal in hockey is not to score 5 or 10 goals in the game…..it’s to score one more goal then the other team. High scoring centres typically get paid more then lower scoring defensive centres, which means a team with Copp/Danault will have more cap to spend in other areas of need then a team who has Tavares (not slagging on JT) as their 2C. So no, neither Copp or Danault are ever going to produce as many points as Tavares will, but that doesn’t mean the team will be worse overall, just means you will likely be better defensively (at 2C) and stronger in other areas of need. More then one way to skin a cat and win hockey games. IMO

Still holding out slim hope Jets sign him long term. He is one of their few forwards that understands how to defend. Of course, they still have to sign Dubois and make a decision on Scheifele.
Can’t keep Copp and Scheifele… one has to go… hopefully Scheifele, but Chevy seems to like him

If I was Winnipeg I think I would trade Scheif and sign Copp. I would also revamp the defense. Seems like having 5 Dmen making over 3 million and signed for 3 years while being pretty far down the GA list isn't a good thing. Move Schief for a top D prospect and maybe a short retool will be beneficial.

As for Copp anything over 5.5 to 6 mill a year is an overpay. I would think you could get him signed 5ish mill for 6 or 7 years and both parties would be happy. Tough decision by Winnipeg if he is holding out for more.

I like Copp but they likely don't have cap space for him if they extend Dubois, which should be a much higher priority.

people needed a scapegoat, the scheifele hate has gotten so bad he's been blamed for goals even when he was on the bench, people have made up thing based on his body language like him and pld having a power struggle because scheif never smiles when pld scores a goal... honestly we need to see how scheifele does under a new coach before we do something drastic. it's absolutely laughable that people think we should trade scheifele to keep copp...

Agreed. There's always a segment that goes full tinfoil hat.

And I would add that discussions from most other Jets fans in regards to MS and "possibly" moving him is almost always centered around the idea of not competing in his and Wheeler's window and moving him now to get assets to add to PLD/Perfetti/Connor/Ehlers, etc. Similar to the same reason why the Canucks may look to move Miller.

Will fix everything
Given Buffalo's need for someone who can win faceoffs and ample capspace, I'd be fine with a 6x6-6.5 deal for Copp. He'd be overpaid but we have cap space and he'd fit a critical need for our forward group that we don't have coming.

He's just been playing with Lowry so much as a pair and Lowry is the C on that line. I don't know how effective he'd be as an everyday 3C because we never see it.

Not contradicting you, he may just take draws and then shift to wing or be used situationally, but his faceoff stats are good. This may have also been brought up, MB if it has.

It's not just faceoffs for a centre, but yes, they are good.
Oh I'm aware, that's why I didn't try to claim he was, just that he is good on the dot. He may lack the IQ to be a top 9 center or his game is better suited for wing. I don't catch a lot of Peg games so I can't say. Doesn't mean he can't play center, just means he'll need the right mix on his wings and he won't be considered one of the better players at his position. If a team is looking for a player that is strong at draws and is ok with them shifting to wing after the faceoff, he may be the answer there too.

Not so much hate as I think they could get a nice return for Scheif that could fix other areas of the team. That added with keeping Copp makes me believe its the better play.

Lots of teams would pay a good price for Schief too.
