I dunno, if the Avs were able to woo away an old-ass two-way center who's great at faceoffs from his current team, I'd like for them to try and get Anze Kopitar.

Crosby is a much better player.
Crosby is on a lower contract.
Crosby would be likely to waive and agree to go to Colorado. I don’t believe Kopitar would.
We have a very rare scenario here where Colorado is not only desirable but potentially the only place he may want to go.

We do not have the rebuilding blocks that Pittsburgh would want in return if they were to trade Crosby
I get that sentimentally some people would want to see him in an Av jersey but it makes 0 sense.

Seriously though capwise you just find a way to convince Colton to waive his NTC and pay what it takes for Crosby 50% retained. They're both around $4m. Or trade Lehkonen for the ~$4.5m capspace (heresy to suggest that, I know).
Every time they try and get a guy to win faceoffs for cheap they never work out.
Either they get hurt before they play an actual game (Winchester).
Or they actually end up surprisingly good but suck at the very thing they were brought aboard to do (McLean)
Or they suck so bad that their prowess at the dot makes no difference whatsoever (Johanssen).
So the real solution is to get a guy who's actually good at the hockey AND good at faceoffs. Hence, Kopitar.

Kopitar makes 7M.
Lars Eller just got traded for nothing. He wasn't a good 2C here of course but he's a good bottom 6 C who can win faceoffs. He makes 2.4M for one year.

All 31 teams would line up if Lehky was on the market.
I'm well aware what his cap hit is. I'm not being entirely serious, mostly just sick of the Crosby pining. I'll be over here hoping the Slovenian heads to Denver soon. In all seriousness I think he'd be a better fit.

Colorado would move the Rockies to bring Crosby over if Dubas ever called to say that Crosby wants to come to Colorado to play.
Forget the cap, forget the trades necessary, forget the need. Think about the shockwaves this would cause. Colorado would literally become top 3 must watch hockey. They wouldn’t be able to keep up with merchandise manufacturing for how much they’d sell. They’d become a national favorite to watch. The media attention would be crazy.
Just from a business perspective they would absolutely jump all over it.
Colorado wouldn’t even need to win for this to be a succesful idea.
This is Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari all over again. Doesn’t matter if Hamilton is washed (Crosby isn’t), the sheer money they make from it is worth more than winning a title.
