Well it obviously requires some roster massaging, it's not just 'sign him' and sit around happily. I'll take a stab at what that looks like after the game :P

but fwiw I'm not suggesting we just jettison people just because.

Unless the cap goes up a fair bit, that's what would have to happen.

So in 14 games he's "Easily" better than Muzzin (and Voynov if he returns) and we should just give him a blank cheque?

Nobody is suggesting blank check. But yes, he is. And it's not just 14 games. It's not that simple. He's a seasoned vet who has been good, but underrated for years. It's not like he's only played 14 good games in his career.

They shouldn't trade Voynov he hasn't even hit his prime yet, if they have to move a defense men it should be Muzzin or Martinez. Carolina wanted Sekera back, but he was asking for 6 million a year. The kings can't afford that, i don't think they could afford to give him 5 million. They still have to resign Kopitar, Pearson and Toffoli. They could move Dustin Brown and his contract to make room.

Slava is 25 years of age, he is in his prime production years right now.

No one is taking Brown's contract, it's easily one of the worst contracts in the league. The Kings are not moving the Captain either.

looks like he might not play in the nhl again which is a shame

That isn't true. It looks like he will go to trial and then depending on the outcome/verdict might end up being ready to go next season at least as much as anything else. I also think that it bares continual repeating that we have had two players recently convicted of serious felonies who were both allowed to return to playing in the NHL. IF Voynov isn't found innocent then after he serves every last bit of punishment coming his way his crimes aren't any more severe then being found guilty of homicide or felony drug smuggling across international borders. If other players can be found guilty of at least equally serious crimes and be allowed to return to the NHL then so should Voynov if he is found to be guilty as well. That said my personal opinion is that if he is found to be guilty of what he has been accused of doing by the Torrance ADA (not his wife) then I don't really care what happens to him as far as his hockey career goes.

Per LAKI, they're not optimistic about Sekera. No crutches, has a limp, so probably not uber-serious and I imagine he'd be around for the playoffs if they were a go, but I'm totally speculating here that he won't be available for the final stretch (I mean, could be an MCL or something). Welcome back McNabb, and pray that Doughty can exert whatever he has left to look good.

what a ****** season

no kidding

Honestly at this point I'm at peace. If we make it, cool. We know what this team is capable of in a 7-game series.

If not, cool. Some guys finally get some well-deserved rest that doesn't involve surgery, we finally get away from the **** luck that has plagued us all year, we get a mid-to-high draft pick (McDavid! Nahh just kidding, you know we're drafting a 6 foot 11 project), these guys are embarrassed and get a chip back on their shoulders to go with the rest, and DL is forced to cut emotional ties and build some youth into the team. I hope Sekera gets to stick around for it.

This ^ is how I have felt for a long time now too. I still believe and will continue to do so in our ability to just find a way to win and win it all if we do but after everything we have accomplished so far with this team over the past four years I am at peace with whatever happens this season. It has been a very interesting one without a doubt. I was sitting around getting all pissed off at how we had been playing and it hit me, how lucky are all of us Kings fans to have our team be good enough to where we expect to win and expect to win it all too. I am happy with how frustrated I get these past four years because it only reinforces how great our team is to me. I expect us to win the cup this year and I will expect it even more next year regardless of what happens this year. I expect Lombardi and crew to make us right back to ready to win the cup next season right at the end of this season whenever that is. With $71m for a cap and a summer to move out a couple of hard contracts/situations I think we are going to be in great shape and go into next season looking very great.

But he has had only 14 games in the Kings system for DL to decide if he's a good fit or not before handing a blank cheque on what is likely a 4-6 year deal. That's my point. In the season where we have people *****ing and moaning about Richards and Brown's contracts, we are just going to annoint the new acquistion as the second best D-man on the team 'easily' and sign him to a high cap hit?

Have at it. :shakehead

You know how this site works. It'll go like this -

Re-signed - Decemeber of 2015 "Dean paid to much and basically had to re-sign him because he traded away all that potential."

Not Re-signed - December of 2015 - "Dean kept Richards and we couldn't re-sign Sekera!" AND/OR "Imagine where this team would be with Scuderi, Mitchell, and Sekera. IMAGINE IT!!!!!!!!111!!!"

You are wise beyond your years RP

Goes without saying my fingers are crossed Sekera is healthy, in the line-up to bail LA out of this corner we're boxed into. But more than that, I just want to see a couple more free-flowing, blue-line tightrope gamebreaker plays before the end of the year. Just a joy to watch out there.

I wish Sutter would have used him more late in the games when they've been trailing. I know anyone on the ice at that point, on this team, is playing with urgency. But with Sekera, you can see him try to take the game into his own hands. I haven't felt the need to yell at the TV to "shoot" or whatever 'cause I can tell he's trying to make space for himself, to either get a shot off (which he's great at) or make a pass to somewhere dangerous.

Part of the appeal of Sekera is he is versatile, being able to play both sides on defense.

What separates him from Richards and Brown is he doesn't play the same style which can lead to wear and tear.

I really don't think Lombardi would have paid the price he did if it was just to get Sekera for a handful of games. To me, the intention was to commit to him long term all along.

I agree, just not his M.O. Whether he can actually do it or not is a different story, though. Think he tries to give him a gaborik-like contract?

I agree on the wear and tear, he plays a Visnovsky-like game, should be healthy-ish well into his 30s.

Canes fan here:

I am half tempted to go back to the trade thread and watch half of you say he sucks based on the first 4 games. All I can say is:

I told you he was good. He is going to cost aorund 6m - 6.5m this off season.
