Voynov needs to go. His actions, criminal or not, totally screwed the Kings over this season. It's quite possible there might be some in the room or organization none too happy with how everything transpired. The defense and the pairings were in a state of flux causing the defensive chemistry to never emerge. I don't think it's a coincidence the Kings have blown so many leads this season. To top it off, he gets seriously injured playing tennis.
As far as his trade value if he's found innocent, you don't think there will be a bidding war for a good young second pairing defenseman with a favorable contract? The league is going to collude to only tender lowball offers for Slava? I have to totally disagree that his value will be low. A player's value is only has high as the need for him, which would be great in the league once he proves healthy. It's not like Voynov has an NMC where he can dictate where he's going to go. He can be traded anywhere. Keep Sekera as he's a first pairing defenseman who plays the type of game we hope Voynov can someday achieve. Sekera relies on his skating and smarts, which is unlikely to age poorly unless catastrophic injury occurs.
Lombardi can't afford to stand pat on this unless he knows for sure Voynov will be found innocent or he thinks a prospect is ready to step up next season. If he feels either of those 2 scenarios are likely, maybe he lets Sekera walk or trades his UFA negotiation rights to another team for a low pick. Unless Sekera's demands are exorbitant, the prudent move is to re-sign him and move someone else.
So he has to go even if innocent? What exactly did he do? Neither of us was there, so all we have is what has hit the media, which so far boils down to a police statement that the wife said was taken when she was denied an interpreter and has repeatedly said he's innocent and won't testify. To much guilty until proven innocent, and even then you are still guilty attitude around here.
As for his value, yeah, I think it will be low in a trade. Lots of teams will likely want him, but he comes with baggage right now and teams know the Kings aren't dealing from a position of strength, not to mention that the Kings are potentially up against the cap so they have a double reason to want to move him. Right now he's worth pennies on the dollar as I have stated before.
