Analyzing Dubas's Performance - III

He also went to that number knowing Aho had signed for 8.5. He screwed himself by making his first offer so high in late june. He should not have been in charge of negotiating against the 3 amigos. Shanny deserves part of the blame IMO.

in fact we probably would have been lucky if someone offer sheeted him, it would have been less than what we gave him

When was the leafs had a rookie GM and he did well ? Stellick, jfj, Noni and now Dubas. What's amazing is none of them ever worked as a GM after.

Being in a management role with the leafs used to mean you are someone who's proven, you have good relationship around the league and you have earned your right for this role

Leafs now feels like McDonald's
If I worked at McDonalds I'd be insulted by this statement.................

Good for Naz finding success in his new role in Colorado so far .. He likely doesn't do that with the Leafs since he'd be getting third line minutes and less PP time.

But for context he's scored more goals in these playoffs than he has in his career playoff games combined .. He wasn't that much of a difference maker, so let's not romanticize him too much.

Also Arizona... is not very good. They were lucky to steal a series against Nashville but overall they had a like 12% chance of making the playoffs prior to the shut down.

YAWN ,,hollow excuses mate
you assume he would not get #1 PP time over Nylander
and have you seen his 2nd line mates? they don't scream "potent" offensive #s

and IF he is getting this done against the other teams 2nd line,,i wonder how he would feast against 3rd line competition

soup/kadri/Kappy 3rd line? not bad at all

what did kadri get stuck with last year? marleau and brown?

He's a good player in a good situation for him. It's not much more than that, but it's an awful lot of fun to play in to the hysteria.

Personally, I am not romanticizing Kadri because I know the 3C role didn't suit him and I think he had to go. I am also a hockey fan first and foremost so I thrilled to see him having success. I simply think that the shoddy return Dubas received for him indicates major problems with Leafs' management. And I look at the success of the rebuild in Colorado compared to Toronto and I think....what a complete cluster f*** in comparison (this was also my view before these playoffs).

Thing is, we played this game last year after signing Tavares and the results were ... well.. not that great.

That's true, the return seems really bad now.

This is Colorado's second iteration of a rebuild though - keep that in mind .. Their first one fizzles out which led to the trade of Duchene but still left them with Mackinnon and Landeskog, and Rantenen.

Maybe that's a lesson for the Leafs ;)

The flip side of course is the team has had plenty of experienced GM's over the past half century and they managed to bring the same number of cups home as those rookie executives

Their first overall pick is also 3 years older than ours, both were supposed to start their upward trend and this is their 3rd playoff appearance since picking MacKinnon.

They're in great shape today, but it's been bumpy

Certainly hope so.

Don't really care about that....nor is it actually true. MacKinnon is 2 year 16 days older. However, in the next three years the chances of Toronto putting together a decent balanced team are near zero because the cap is flat and half their cap is spent on 4 players who don't deliver close to enough to justify their cap hits. For the next two years Colorado will be competing for the cup with their 1C and 2C (who have 24 points between them so far this playoffs) combined costing less than either JT or Matthews - and even the year after that MacKinnon will still be only 6.3.

He's more of a Leafs than 99% of the clowns we keep throwing over the boards. Wish him all the success in the world. Makes Dubas look more and more foolish each passing game (which is amusing).

Yep.

I'm definitely a Kadri fan regardless of what uniform he was in and am very happy that he's having a fantastic series.

That said I think some folks seem to forget that he had 4 chances to show to this team he was an key asset for the post season, and didn't come close to doing so.

If he had played like this for the Leafs last playoffs he'd still be with the team most likely.

No the season prior to that.
the season prior to that he matched the offensive out put we just lost in JVR + bozak ,,he perfectly matched their combined totals from their season before and he saved us 1 million in cap and opened up a roster spot for the likes of Kappy/Johns
