I don't follow the rangers that close but had he really fallen off that hard?
It's nuanced. Expectations got inflated with an inflated contract that he drastically underperformed against. He hasn't been good on the ice but has been carrying some struggling partners the last couple years as well.
However, there is absolutely value here for the Ducks. They get Trouba for the same thing the Rangers got him for: Veteran insulation. Trouba allowed Fox to work into the lineup behind him and eventually take over. He's taken a lot of criticism that could've gone Miller's way. And honestly if he can regain some form I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Ducks flip him for more than they paid for him at the deadline next year.
I think if you asked most Ducks fans would you trade Vak and a conditional 4th for a 2nd in the 2026 draft they would say yes. And I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Verbeek get that a year from now for Trouba at 50% retention.
People are going nuts but this could prove to be a good move for both teams in a year.
