The issue was tho, they apparently had trades with teams not on the NTC list lined up and he basically said he didn't care he wouldn't report to these teams. So he was acting in really bad faith.
Is this confirmed? I have heard it spoken here but have not seen a source. If he was traded and refused to report, Rangers would have been done with him anyway, so that should not have been a deterrent. And would Trouba even have done that, with millions of $$$ at stake?

The rumor was out there in the media but never really confirmed.

If it was true, the problem wouldn’t have been from the Rangers end. Nobody would trade for a player that wouldn’t report.

Cool.

If money doesn't matter why didn't the Ducks get a single player in UFA?

They had the opportunity this past offseason to get a number of better dman for less than 8 mill without giving up a pick (or you can lower the term and up the AAV like the Canes did with Orlov if you want).

Case in point is literally on their roster in Radko Gudas, who they were able to acquire, for free, for half of trouba's cap hit.

Justifying bad teams using their money poorly by pretending money doesn't matter is a weak argument. If anything teams with a lower budget should be MORE criticized for wasting those resources.
You keep repeating this question even though it’s been answered. Refusing to accept the answer, doesn’t help make your point. The Ducks made big offers to both Stamkos and Marchesault (sp). As for their defense, perhaps, Pat wanted to wait and see what the youngens would do since they already had a logjam there.

Vaakanainen is here, but he's on IR with an injury right now. I think he'll factor into the lineup for at least a look at some point. Rangers have Victor Mancini who's a rookie and shown some potential but also struggles.

Zac Jones is another guy who tends to sit sometimes.

I'm sure hell factor into the lineup at some point for one of those guys if only for a look.
So if I got this correctly.. the rangers got rid of trouba and didn't really replace him and the d core is just fine with internal moves?

Well there was 3-4 teams that were looking to acquire Trouba which goes back to my point about gms being stupid when it comes to not taking advantage of a team in a tight spot. So it was unlikely that New York would've had to pay anything.

Columbus was smart enough to pull their offer at some point. Good to know their gm had a brain.
Funny, because it was reported that Trouba refused to waive for CBJ which is why they were no longer in the mix.

Somewhere on earth in a hospital
The other thread got locked, but I'll repeat what I said there....

Trouba has to be furious, right? Wife is still a Dr in NY and that was one of the key reasons for the original move to NY? And they just had a baby earlier this year?
Poor guy earning 8m a year , they are also hospitals in Anaheim. Don't want to be that guy , but perhaps he should have known better that hockey is a business and that you can get traded anytime.

Let's see if I'm a betting man ducks got quality here large trouba ain't chicken feed material and basically got him for nothing . Anyways seems rags used trouba money and overpaid shest by at least 3.5 million from what I see. Drury should be canned.
He should be awarded for getting rid of Trouba for free.

Depends.

Perhaps his ask was too low. Perhaps he should have aimed way higher.

It seems there are 3 teams that have no flexibility as it pertains to this season, next, and the cap floor.

If they want to trade a big name they must take salary back. In some cases they’ll be forced to sign people, and when agents know that they come hard. Meanwhile they have young players that will be ready to displace others in the depth chart. Young players have tiny aav.

There are a few more deals that will have to happen for those teams negotiating next seasons cap floor. Somebody’s gonna squeeze em.

We will see what they have to pay. It is prob gonna be more than a 4th and a depth defenseman.

Trouba was easy and the perfect medicine: entertaining player, good person seemingly, except for the elbows, lotsa AAV and only 2 years. The ufa pool wants term and all LTIR contracts have a different use case that’s more valuable. Nyr perhaps could have squeezed them much harder.

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure or something.

this should have happened in the offseason when Trouba and his agent killed the wings deal…..
Can’t allow the player to hold you hostage when they were absolutely in their rights to waive him even then…
I had Troubas back 95% of the time on the rangers boards, but ppl defending him for wanting him to stay the extra year was wrong…
Let him sit for a year or do whatever the hell he wants once he’s waived, but don’t turn it into a year long cause celebra. It’s already gone on for too long imo.
He had the C and knew he’s on borrowed time here, the team is he’s captaining isn’t playing up to par… it’s more then logical at this stage
