Yes they have a ton of school hospitals in SoCal. UC Irvine Medical Center is like 3 miles from the Arena. Jacobs Medical Center is about an hour and a half away. And there are about 10 teaching Hospitals in LA about an hour away (USC, UCLA, Cedars-Sinai, etc.) And all of these have multiple campuses.

Yes, SoCal is probably the premier location for the medical profession in the US. I have many doctor friends who ended up in the area.

This wasn't necessarily a shot specifically at Anaheim but at NHL gms. Why was there a "bidding war" for a player that isn't playing well and has a cap hit of 8m for 1.5 seasons?

The cap hit is largely irrelevant to a cap floor team like Anaheim and teams in a similar situation, with the cap rising they may actually find it preferable to have a player with a higher cap hit than his actual salary. A non-cap-constrained team isn't looking at him like an 8m cap hit, they're looking at him as a 6m dman ... which these days isn't exorbitant, and the term isn't crazy.

If they move Fowler (who has a lower cap hit but higher actual salary), they end up raising their cap total to keep up with the rising floor, while reducing the money spent. They can also now move Fowler AND Dumoulin yet still have two veterans under contract for next year (Gudas and Trouba) to go with all those young dmen, instead of having to go shopping for one in the offseason. They weren't gonna go into next year with Gudas and five young dmen.

What the actual f***? How did New York get bailed out of Trouba's deal for basically nothing? I don't even get why Anaheim even wants Trouba? He does nothing. Mysterfying

I look at the math and trouba isnt bad at 6.9 million for aav . Hes brand name guy and if he plays to his old ways what a solid move. I'm in the camp hes gonna find himself out of that pressure cooker in New York.
His AAV is 8 million, not 6.9 million.

You can subtract 1.1 mill from trouba if you want, but then you'd subtract that from every other player in the league as well and his contract still looks bad

Vaak was fully buriable.

You can't have a cap dump of a guy you can send down to the minors with 0 cap hit.
Let's see that rags D looks weak and need someone to hold back there and they got stone man vaak to take position. I think he stays in lineup. I'm gonna keep an eye on this trade I think the ducks did well at first glance.

I dont recall Vaaks ever really playing both sides (zellweger and Lacombe were kinda the ones that did that).... but regardless i dont think he is some throw in roster spot player... i imagine hell see ice in New york, and i think the fans will be pleasantly surprised. He just needs a place where he can get ice time.
Ah, okay. He was listed as LD/RD on some sites.

We need help on the left side anyhow, so he may have been a player Drury asked for. None of our LD are really standing out at this point, if not looking outright bad, and we don't have a whole lot in terms of near-ready defensive prospects who could step in, so it makes sense from that standpoint.

I have no sympathy for Trouba. Held out in 2016 stating he didn't want to play for the Jets, held Chevy at gunpoint to trade him specifically to the Rangers (Pittsburgh had a better deal apparently) and was a jerk to fans when he played in Winnipeg.

If people say I'm a liar he pretty much rejected going to Columbus.

Anaheim paid 8 mill and a pick for the quality of player you can find for half of that money in UFA.

Case in point, Radko Gudas.
