Just cause the Ducks can “afford” it, doesn’t make it a good trade.

Trades are rated based on comps. In a League where teams are paying 3rds and 2nds to offload 2-3M in cap dumps.

An 8M 3rd pair D-man Cap Dump in Trouba should have required payment to get rid of, but not only did Verbeek not get that, he PAID to take on the cap albatross.
Uh no, they’re valued based on the market. If teams were willing to offer late picks, then it doesn’t matter if Joe Schmoe on HF thinks he should’ve had a 2nd round pick attached to him

Yes. The market. For example Jake Walman, better defenceman than Trouba. Griersy gets a 2nd to take on 2Mish. Trouba blows and is 8M(!).

Can’t confirm any of this unless the GMs start talking. But here’s what I think happened. There were like 3 or 4 teams interested in Trouba but they all assumed NYR would be screwed with the 8M cap and would need to put him on waivers and hopefully someone takes him for free. Drury convinced Verbeek there was huge interest and he would need to jump the line to get Trouba. Verbeek got played and overpaid.

What is even in Anaheim? Usually I can picture a city skyline, and landmarks, either man made or geographical. When I think of Anaheim i get nothing besides the Ducks, or more specifically The Mighty Ducks, logo. Perhaps my ignorance is on me though
For these players? Newport Beach, mostly.

Trouba vetos a trade to Detroit only to end up in Anaheim instead. He can’t be happy about that at all. Should have gone home instead over the summer where was wanted long term.

I thought the same, but apparently he waived for Anaheim.

One of the rangers fans (apologies for not remembering who you are, ranger fan!) brought up that his wife is almost done her residency, just a few months. So they may have preferred to move to California

Is it confirmed that he waived? He only has a 15 team NTC so it’s possible Anaheim wasn’t even on it.

Ouch. Sucks for Anaheim. And I don't like this because I don't want that dirty POS near Celebrini, Smith, or Eklund.

Can't believe anyone took that full salary and didn't get assets for doing it. Some GMs are beyond clueless.

Why did the ducks bail out the rangers for free??? This makes no sense you have to think the ducks would’ve at least made the rangers throw in a 2nd right?? Jake walman at 2M had to have a 2nd thrown in with him.

Players do this always look how Trouba got to Rangers and Fox as well. I got no sympathy for guys making 8 million per upset about having to move. Retire if it sucks that bad. Drury is doing what's best for the team and that's what he's paid to do.
I didn’t say I feel bad for anyone. It’s just not a good look to do this twice. You don’t think players around the league take notice of these things? Who the hell would wanna play for Drury knowing he did this 2 times.

oh come on. is he going to play tonight? be looking to make an... Impact. can't wait to see who takes an elbow to the face.

Im some sick world there is a point in time where Anaheim has

Gudas Solberg and Trouba in the same D core.

Trouba will provide some leadership for that young locker room.

Worse places to end up living than Anaheim.

I'm actually surprised we got back any assets.
Vaaks has been very solid in spot duty..... just too much young dmen in anaheim for him to ever keep a spot in the roster.

I think I would rather be in Anahein than Detroit in December .

Maybe the Trouba family does too. Do they have teaching hospitals in Southern California? If so, maybe there's hope for her medical career and his hockey guaranteed contract -- errr, "career" -- too :)

Just make sure your health insurance is paid up before you defeat the Ducks with Thing 1 (Gudas) and Thing 2 (Trouba). They might not beat you on the scoreboard, but they'll beat your brains in and knock your teeth out.

you are missing the entire point of this.

Getting ANY ASSET in return for the negative asset of Trouba and his contract makes it a good move from NY's perspective and a bad mood from Anaheim's perspective. It could have been a 7th in 2042. Still would be the same thing. Trouba is a highly negative asset. Paying for it is a stupid move.
Does this move hurt anaheim?
