Out of curiosity: I read in the other thread that covid somehow extended his wife´s work/stay in NY. How does that work? How is it possible for an employer to force someone to stay another year?
Trouba only had a half the league MTNC. So, he would eligible to be dealt to half the league If he was good enough to get a NMC through year 6, then he should have gotten it. But, he didn't.

Not great timing, but he knew that NYR wanted to move him. Wife has to remain at that hospital to complete her residency I believe. Think he was hoping to complete the year with NY and then accept a trade in the summer.

The other thread got locked, but I'll repeat what I said there....

Trouba has to be furious, right? Wife is still a Dr in NY and that was one of the key reasons for the original move to NY? And they just had a baby earlier this year?
Well that’s too bad for him. He should’ve played better, then, rather than overstaying his welcome for years.

As a life long Rangers fan I wouldn’t wanna play for a Drury team. Between Goodrow and now Trouba that’s no way to treat your players. Almost makes me think the team is giving up on him.
Players do this always look how Trouba got to Rangers and Fox as well. I got no sympathy for guys making 8 million per upset about having to move. Retire if it sucks that bad. Drury is doing what's best for the team and that's what he's paid to do.

Proposed a Trouba to the Ducks deal in March of last year. I still think Anaheim moves Fowler as a result of adding Trouba, just obviously a separate deal if it happens now.

Because he was "targeting her lower body" during COVID and they had a baby. That's what delayed the completion of the residency.

I think lots of teams would be interested if his salary was 4M. At 8M he should've been a negative asset.

His real money is 6m, right? Which means if they trade Fowler, they're actually SAVING money even if the cap number goes up ... but as a cap floor team that wouldn't really matter. In fact if the cap goes up, that also helps them get there while spending less. So in some ways, that's ideal.

Between Mintyukov, Zellweger, Lacombe, and now Helleson's emergence as legit NHL dmen ... and Luneau knocking on the door ... they still need more than just Gudas back there as a veteran. Fowler doesn't mesh stylistically with the kids, the things he's best at are things the young guns are taking over doing. Dumoulin is UFA this summer, and highly unlikely the Ducks will pony up to keep him when he should net a good return at the TDL.

But the other thing is until Fowler and Dumoulin are gone, they don't actually need Trouba right now. If he really doesn't want to leave until his wife is done, they could have him on unpaid leave. The need for him is more next year than it is right now. Once his wife is done with her residency, SoCal is a hotbed for medical jobs.

Yeah, I know about trading and contracts. It's the "residency got extended-part" I try to understand.

Is residency some sort of medical education, which got postponed during covid, and she has to complete that at the same hospital/school where she started it? Why is she unable to finish that in another town?

What is even in Anaheim? Usually I can picture a city skyline, and landmarks, either man made or geographical. When I think of Anaheim i get nothing besides the Ducks, or more specifically The Mighty Ducks, logo. Perhaps my ignorance is on me though

So residency, in this case, is medical education, that she is unable to finish in another town/hospital/school?

I kind of get it from Anaheim's perspective. Young team that's having a decent season so why not bring in a vet with all that cap space to help a yougn group.

The issue is that it's a clearly bad contract and they completely let a team that was badly trying to dump this guy off the hook for....reasons.
This reminds me of what Holland did with the Keith trade actually giving the Hawks assets to take their bad contract, perplexing.
I get the "leadership" argument to a degree, for sure. Issue is as you point out, they've let a team off the hook of an impressively bad contract and paid for the privilege.

Hell Fowler's contract is as bad as Trouba's. At least Trouba was worth his for a few years. Fowler has never been worth more then 3.5 mil.

Just cause the Ducks can “afford” it, doesn’t make it a good trade.

Trades are rated based on comps. In a League where teams are paying 3rds and 2nds to offload 2-3M in cap dumps.

An 8M 3rd pair D-man Cap Dump in Trouba should have required payment to get rid of, but not only did Verbeek not get that, he PAID to take on the cap albatross.
