Why did Verbeek make this trade?

Live footage of the contents of a package addressed to the Ducks front office marked "Jacob Trouba's hockey gear, Attn: Ducks Owner guy"

Should've just sucked it up and accepted the trade to Detroit 🤷 sucks brother but that's life, enjoy making 8 mil a year.

I mean, in non-hockey terms, I'd much rather live in Anaheim than Detroit (and I do like Detroit, FWIW - my wife is from there).

So he would go to Anaheim but not Columbus? I mean Columbus is significantly closer to NY.
But then he'd have to live in Ohio.

I can sort of understand this from the Ducks. With the cap going up and multiple players on ELC's, they're going to have cap space up the wazoo. Like, even after this and a couple RFA signings, you're still looking at 20 million next summer.

Not sure how much they're willing to spend in free agency. Trouba is signed for just 1 more year. Helps not having to worry about cap floor.

It still makes no sense

So he vetoed trades to Columbus and Detroit but accepts trade to Anaheim, is staying close to his wife and toddler important to him or not? I am confused.
It’s been a while and I don’t know how accurate it was in the first place, but I believe I read something in the summer about Anaheim being in the vicinity of one of the few hospitals his wife could reasonably transfer to.

The other thread got locked, but I'll repeat what I said there....

Trouba has to be furious, right? Wife is still a Dr in NY and that was one of the key reasons for the original move to NY? And they just had a baby earlier this year?
Dude this is professional sports. He gets paid a lot of money to play a game. The Rangers aren’t obligated to do anything other than making the team better. How many times we gotta hear “but his wife is a doctor in NY” who cares! They’ll figure it out

Addition by subtraction. Trouba is so bad. A big part of NYR’s failure against FLA was the fact that Trouba is so slow and can’t win 50/50 races for puck retrievals and it led to NYR being hemmed in their own zone.

If that’s not bad enough, he’s running around out of position trying to throw hits.

I’ve literally never seen a defenseman go completely out to the boards to throw a hit on the penalty kill in OT when the puck carrier has clean possession of the puck. Then Trouba came along and it cost the Rangers an ECF game.

One of the worst trades in the cap era for the Rangers.

He had a 15 team NTC. Has it been confirmed he actually waived for this, or is it possible this was one of the teams he simply didn’t have on his list?
