As if they weren't going to go after the youngsters with Johnston already in the lineup. Anyways, I mean to ask you as both a Ducks and Rags fan, how do you feel about this for both sides?

For me personally, I don't like it mainly because I feel like Verbeek should have asked for more at least. Also what does that do when you have to rotate 2 defensemen out on a nightly basis just to accommodate Trouba? Also an additional side effect, this deal might hamper Verbeek's ability to ship Fowler out assuming he already doesn't have a deal in the works.

Not to sound arrogant as that’s not my nature can ask those who personally know me here. But I am one of the few here who can make heads or tails of this trade. Since I watch both the Rangers and Ducks games.

Rangers have issues they had to make changes, Trouba was one of them but far from it. Feel this is a dominos effect to that will happen with them.

Getting to the trade, I would have preferred the Ducks taking on Kreider’s contract to be honest. We lack scoring. Trouba does nothing for that. The only thing I am hoping for is Trouba has motivation to prove himself, and not being under the microscope of NYC may also help, and will find his game and be a solid D bottom pairing for the Ducks. I am honestly coping right now. Rangers relieved themselves of an anchor contract, and it’s going to help them right their ship.

I’m losing a lot of faith in Verbeek and with the Rangers likely seeing their window closed sooner than later. Hockey is about to make me very bitter, and it was an escape from real life to enjoy myself yet I cannot even do that. I left last game early, after traveling 2k miles, when Zegras was injured. So you can imagine how I’m feeling now.

I do like the trade. Big, physical, a leader, just 1.5 years. While CAP is 8m, cash it is 6. Based on cash he is 1.5m cheaper than Cam this year and half a million next.

I do not see an overpayment either. We gave up literally nothing.

Well...he wants to be here, so that's a positive I guess?

They gave up virtually nothing to get him, but I don't think he's really that good anymore and the potential starting price point of an extension scares me (cuz it sounds like from Verbeek's comments, that's the direction they're looking to go).

As long as the extension isnt signed tomorrow, I think we'll be OK. Beeker did say he was HOPING Trouba could be here a while, didnt say he would be

Yes, he better helps us reach the rising floor while spending less (assuming Fowler will be moved).

And I know everyone likes how Dumoulin has played, but he'll be 34 next year, he's likely to be much in demand given his play, and given all the young guys coming up it would be criminal to sign him to an expensive multi year extension instead of getting something at the TDL.

And there are rumors that Dumo wants to go to the East Coast, right?

Unless we miraculously pull off a playoff run, I think the odds of him playing here next year are close to 0

I think it's pretty clear he's toned it down. It's been like five years since his last suspension, and I don't recall anything even controversial during that time. Certainly with the Ducks he hasn't picked the head on any hits.
I was attempting a joke

The good thing is that they're not even allowed to sign him to an extension until July 1, so if he comes here and sucks, hopefully Verbeek isn't wowed enough by a few devastating hits to sign him long-term. If he's revitalized and plays well over the next four months, well...that could be trouble if it's just a dead cat bounce.

I actually applaud this deal.

Trouba is still a good top-4 defenseman and now being in a ‘small’ market may ,are him better.

ot it’s another RHD which we desperately need. The guy was a captain for christs sake
He's best served as a bottom pairing d-man on a defensively sound team, good top 4 he is not. Even if you didn't know anyrhing about him, should be clear that good top 4 defenseman don't come at a price of 4th round pick and a player you are not playing.

Vaak was likely waiver fodder. I care more about the 4th, but at this point I would gladly trade a 4th to make the team better now. Obviously they thought he made them better. It remains to be seen if its true.

Just throwing it out there that in the past few years the Ducks have taken a lot of guys the general consensus was that they were terrible and they played well for the Ducks. Especially defensemen.

Not sure why Dumo has to be gone.

Because you want Luneau to be on the team at some point in the relatively near future.
